Regardless of ranking, the SEC does very well when it comes to vet schools. Can't go wrong with any of them, imo.

As far as I know, they still do.

Nope, but I googled vet pay, and it says between $40-60k/year. No way that’s right either.

Truer than you'd think.

My son's scout leader in MS was an MSU grad. He and his wife had their own practice and weren't really banking money.

Large animal vets in the right areas are where the better money is.

What year was this, recently or like 1987?

Another note- running your own practice is only lucrative if you actually know how to run a business, which has nothing to do with being a good doctor.

If I had to spend all my days looking in everybody's raunchy mouths all day long, I'd be suicidal too. Kinda like being a proctologist or funeral home embalmer...no sane people want to do that crap so they need to get paid.

Don’t know if it’s still true but at one time it was more difficult to get into veterinary school than med school

It still is harder to gain admission to veterinary school and more difficult to complete.A medical student only had to memorize one form of anatomy. Vets must learn numerous. Students not able to get in medical school often go podiatry or chiropractic.

Yes, knowing a whole bunch of species is much easier than knowing one.

2015-2016

They weren't struggling, especially compared to the local population. But, my single family income for a family of 5 wasn't far off from their own family of 3.

Actually most states that have a Vet school have an agreement with states that don’t have one (back in my days, UGA had an agreement with West Virginia and South Carolina) where the states that don’t have Vet schools helped to subsidize tuition; therefore those students would pay “in-state” tuition costs and they also had certain number of guaranteed spots in each class. I believe It was cheaper for those states to do subsidize costs vs starting a Veterinary program.

When I started my Vet career 32 yrs ago I was making 27k ( before taxes).
You don’t go into the Vet field to make money for sure.

That reminds me of the joke. What do you call the person who graduates last in their veterinary school/medical school?

My freshman year roommate was a vet, his dad was a vet, they were well off. But I think they predominantly dealt with cattle. I know they also raised and sold cows, some of their cows won awards and sold for a lot. I always assumed vets were paid.
