Well, we have Gone with the Wind which is arguably a bigger deal.

WIthout the actions at Fort Sumter, there is no Gone with the WInd...which in itself is fiction. Leave it to a Georgia fan to argue that perception is more relevant than facts or history.

How does having a military school make a state more Southern?

The Citadel is a Southern Institution who's beliefs and actions over history reflect the culture of the south.

4. NCAA won't come to Columbia, will go to ATL

SC has something on their State House grounds that keeps the NCAA from hosting tournaments in SC. The NAACP boycotts SC, in contrast GA has ATL.

And Columbia is a damn gypsy nest.

This is the first time I've ever heard this, good luck with that.

ATL also has the South's baseball team (Braves)

might have been true in the 90's, not so much now.

Actually, GA's 2nd biggest is Georgia State and its third biggest is Kennesaw State. But please continue being wrong.

I never said enrollment. Ga Tech is a bigger name than Ga State or Kennesaw State, but continue assuming incorrectly.

And yet you stopped at 7 arguable points...

8. SC originally known as a plantation colony. GA originally known as a penal colony.

9. Most Famous SC Politician, John C Calhoun -Vice President

Most Famous GA Politician, Kasim Reed - ATL Mayor

There is a difference between "redneck" and southern. Think as far as redneck goes, you have a good list, but change SC with GA and TX with FL.

Without the actions at Fort Sumter...the War of Northern Aggression would have started somewhere else. Fort Sumter was the first military action of the war, but was not the actual cause of it.

Damn I didn't know Bojangles closed. It must have been recently. I read where Chick-fil-A sells more chicken than anyone, including KFC.

This is true, in a total revenue sense. I think Chic-Fil-A's chicken is more expensive per ounce than KFC's or anyone's for that matter. It is still amazing though, since they only do business 6 days a week.

You just seemed so proud that SC had a VP until you realized we had a president so now you resort to discrediting a peanut farmer because he is a Democrat.

Will always give props to SC for being the first to secede from the union. That took major balls.

Which reminds me: we have Augusta fricking National on our side and there ain't shite in the world that can match that.

... which was run by a Carolinian for years. And Georgia still has the REST of Augusta, which, well, is a miserable shithole.

And the Varsity does, indeed suck. Give me Rush's any day of the week.

All of that said, I can't hate Georgia as a state too much. The state itself differs so wildly from Ringgold to Valdosta, and Augusta from Columbus. Though I was born in Georgia, I chose to move to SC, and would move back in a heartbeat.

Nailed it. I fear for the FL panhandle as the rest of the state turns into New York.

Gone with the Wind is directly based on the stories of Margaret Mitchell's family who had fought in the Civil War and lived in the Antebellum South. And last I checked, the book and movie adaptation are two of the best-selling titles in their respective mediums. Outside of history class, Ft. Sumter is rarely mentioned.

Doesn't count, internet survey.

FWIW, the internet survey was hosted by a Charleston-based magazine. And I guess people that vote on something must be wrong since they use the internet to do it.

SC has something on their State House grounds that keeps the NCAA from hosting tournaments in SC. The NAACP boycotts SC, in contrast GA has ATL.

So, is it the NCAA or NAACP? Still fail to see how that makes SC more Southern.

quote:

might have been true in the 90's, not so much now.

Who has usurped the Braves in terms of baseball fandom in the South? Every Braves game is essentially one giant SEC get together.

quote:

I never said enrollment. Ga Tech is a bigger name than Ga State or Kennesaw State, but continue assuming incorrectly.

You said biggest. But I guess if we're playing by your rules, we can go ahead and discount Georgia based on its "second biggest school" being nerdy and totally ignore that Grant Field is the oldest stadium in college football and that their fight song refers to whiskey drinking (yeah, I just took up for Tech. But you can't talk shite about our little brother; only we can talk shite about our little brother).

quote:

8. SC originally known as a plantation colony. GA originally known as a penal colony.

And Georgia's history is much more badass for it (not to mention that Georgia originally covered a hell of a lot more territory of the South than SC ever has).
