Is this the thread where Alabama fans try to explain how they're such a great school? Alabama was EVERYONE'S backup at my high school, well...them and Auburn.

I was speaking with my Mother last night--she's a former professor at Alabama. She told me that according to some of her friends that still teach at U of A the University is larger than its ever been, more than half of the students are from out of state, professors have received a raise every year for the last four years where other schools in state have not granted a school-wide raise in five. To say revenue is up at the University of Alabama would be an understatement. TIFWIW
I've been a student at Alabama since 2008 (now in a grad program there) and the transformation has been profound. Each year enrollment has increased. Tuition has also increased by several hundred a semester lol.
Revenue has definitely shot up over the past few years and it has show with multiple buildings being constructed/renovated around campus each year.

The amount of construction in Aggieland is out of control. We have the 10th largest endowment in the country, and a shite ton of that has gone in to shiny new buildings. I would like to know how it compares, as all I hear about from the piggies is walmart money.

Well global companies have ranked the quality of the applicants from various world wide universities. The data was independently gathered/verified. There are only 4 SEC schools in the Top 150, globally. USC is #2 in the SEC!
I will give you this:
USCe has a fine global business program.

One of US News ranking criterias is acceptance rates. Bama's is in the 40% because every redneck with a GED from Alabama applies and they get to pad their numbers with those rejections. Bama's President has pushed hard to bring the enrollment to 30K+ that the student body is waterdowned with marginal students.

Is Auburn or Alabama considered a better school? I really have no idea. Both are considered serious backup schools in Texas. At least way back when I was in high school. I never considered applying to either, fwiw. I had a good friend go to Auburn. She was a prude though. I had no use for her.

according to this Top Schools in the world Vandy, Florida, Texas A&M, UGA, UK, Missouri, USCe, Auburn, and Arkansas
LSU is 100 spots above Auburn on that silly list (although this is not why I think it's silly).
Side note: Look for Tulane on the list. Where does it fall?

My opinion, and according to US news college rankings
Vandy > Florida > TAMU > Georgia
Which ranking do you look at?
It's:
Vandy
Florida
UGA
Texas A&M

Both are similar in "prestige."
Go to BAMA if you want to be a lawyer, accountant, etc. BAMA is more focused on Business and Liberal Arts.
Go to Auburn if you want to be an engineer, vet, etc. Auburn is a Science/Tech focused school.

There's a bigger gap between Vanderbilt and Florida than there is between Georgia and the top schools in your "every other school" category.
So why don't we just say "Vandy > every other school" and be done with it?

Vandy
AU
FL
UGA
A&M belongs somewhere in the top 5 as well I believe, just do not know enough about them.
Significant drop after this.
I'm basing my opinion partly on average mid career earnings (a strong indicator of a good education) and Vandy is #1, AU #2, and UF #3 in the SEC.

Arkansas has good schools of business and architecture. Everything else is pretty ho hum. Well, I guess our poultry science program is good. I hear the creative writing program is also pretty good.

AU is harder to get into, has higher average ACT/SAT scores and higher GPAs of incoming students.
AU grads make more at mid-career on average than any SEC school except Vandy.

Auburn ahead of UF?

Based on how much grads make at mid-career.
Let me double check that though...

We get the bump though because of our AAU membership and research dollars.
UGA will be joining AAU shortly, once our Med school is officially up and running at full speed.

With all due respect my brother got into Auburn and he didnt do shite in high school had less than a 3.0 and his ACT wasnt too good either. Typically the rednecks go to Auburn and the wealthy kids go to BAMA. He was accepted into the Engineering Program too. He's a junior now in Mechancial Engineering.

Yeah. Mid career earnings (average):
University of Florida (UF) $80,800
Auburn University $84,900
And actually A&M belongs at #2 behind Vandy.
Vanderbilt University $104,000
Texas A&M University $92,700

I don't put much stock into the US News College rankings. They use a lot of factors like endowment, survey's from students and alumni, etc.
