You do realize this is not strictly an academic ranking.

It is most definitely an academic ranking. The entire ranking is an attempt to quantify academic excellence:

quote:

The U.S. News ranking system rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and it's based on our researched view of what matters in education.

Arkansas jumped four spots, and its also one of the fastest growing public universities in the nation.

Our rankings are still crappy-ish, but money is helping.

LSU and Arkansas are pretty much ranked the same academically. I think we were actually tied in the rankings for the past several years.

The biggest strides being made at Arkansas are still in graduate programs, and those aren't a part of this ranking.

ETA: I was surprised to read how Greek Arkansas is now. 36% of females and 24% of males are in greek organizations. That's right up there with the top of the SEC. That breakdown is available if you click on the individual schools in the rankings.

Wait, I'm not reading this whole thread to discern levels of sarcasm and sincerity, but I hope to god none of you dumb frickers is actually taking these rankings seriously. No one who matters or knows anything about higher education gives these rankings any credence whatsoever.

U.S. News has zero credibility when they're actually covering the news, the thing they are ostensibly good at. As someone for whom a big part of his job revolves around finding creative ways to meaningfully rank things, I can tell you they have even less credibility when it comes to list making.

I've always wondered why Missouri isn't higher because of their AAU status.

I trust this guy. He's probably the smartest poster on here. Ask him to explain his name.

Any ranking by a third party is going to be subjective in some manner.

That is because US News rankings are only about undergrad. AAU is about academic research which is where all the doctoral students are at.

Notre Dame is highly ranked by US News for their undergrad, but they can't be AAU because they don't have shite for research programs.

What's the popkern for? We at LSU only care about athletic excellence, food , and bourbon? In that order. Only SEC program with double digit conf titles in all 3 major men's sports. DWI
