The SEC should've never expanded the first time. We could've had a round-robin schedule going by now.

The 1992 addition of Arkansas and South Carolina made the SEC complete in all athletics.

Football wise, SEC schools never played a full conference schedule anyway. Creating the divisions forced the league into an 8 game format, which was good for the league. Even in 1991 the SEC schedule had 7 games. LSU in 1985 only had 6 league games.

How is Alabama important. They only contribute to the embarrassment of this conference.

Each contributes; each is important.
None would be where they are without the contributions of the collective conference.

If we're talking about the future and ignoring history here are the rankings:

1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. LSU
4. Auburn
5. Georgia
6. Texas A&M
7. Kentucky
8. USC
9. Mizzou
10. Tennessee
11. Ole Miss
12. Vanderbilt
13. Arkansas
14. Miss St

I think A&M, Mizzou, Tennessee have the most room to go higher in these standings in the future. I say that because A&M and Mizzou are competing quite well right now and the SEC $$$ hasn't even really rolled in yet. Once these two programs get on the same level of facilities as the top 1/2 you could see very quality programs from them.

Tennessee, I'm sorry, but since we've been in the league you guys have been pathetic.

Arkansas, all you have is your past, your future looks about as hopeless as the cars and toilets that are in your front yards.

Kentucky could be higher because of basketball but their football program is such shite, and this is a football conference.

Once Spurrier leaves USC I'd expect them to nose dive back to where they spent the first 20 years in the SEC, duking it out with Vandy and Kentucky. Cocks have been spoiled lately, and all good things come to an end.

"Tennessee, I'm sorry, but since we've been in the league you guys have been pathetic."

And yet you yourself said these rankings are in terms of the FUTURE, not the past.

The fact is, we are about 2 years off from returning to competitiveness at the top level of the SEC. While after 1 solid season, you have lost the majority of your production from last year, and will likely drop off significantly the next few years. Not saying things won't improve in time, but right now your stock is trending down.

Well LSU has the 5th highest rating, and not one of the biggest makers, combined with the amount of money we have brought in with Championship games. Bama is the reigning champion so it makes sense that they would draw a lot of attention.
So LSU is a top 5 in ratings

We have one of the best record int eh SEC this millennium.
So at worst #2 in competitiveness

Prestige- well we are one of 2 schools in the SEC to be to 3 BCS championships, and we are pumping out NFL players. DBU
So top 5 in prestige.

So what is Tennessee bringing to the table that you are putting them ahead of us? Or A&M? Or UGA?

Or really any team that isn't UF or Bama?

Agreed that we have more ground to catch up.

But one key point that EVERY troll (aka not you) misses is that A&M's boost the last two years is not just JFF. Being in the SEC doesn't put us above Texas automatically, but it does make it so we never fall behind a Baylor or a Tech and that we are a legitimate #2 ala Auburn, Mich St and FSU.

Sumlin appears to be a heckuva coach. It's only natural to wonder how he'll do without an inherited QB, but some of those questions should have been laid to rest by the fact that he signed a QB every bit as heralded (more heralded, in fact) as his last two.

As far as being a legit #2, I can't see how that would even be in question. TT, Baylor, TCU, and Rice are all either lower-tier or heavily dependent on being run by coaches who compensate for their disadvantages (notably Leach and Briles.) There's a reason TT, for instance, hasn't managed to replicate the success it had under Leach, and it has everything to do with the fact that it's simply not an upper-tier program without a certain coaching style. I know they had some decent years back in the 3 network era, but those were never sustainable either. TAMU had pretty much all the qualifications for an upper-tier program to start with and joining the SEC only solidified them.

Didn't Missouri get more press from their newly outed gay athlete than they did from winning the SEC east? That's sad, and tells you a lot about the national appeal of Missouri.
