You care to elaborate on what the hell the machine is other than just an underground society?
The most ridiculously overhyped political "organization" on just about any campus anywhere. It's literally a handful of people from the "Old Row" fraternities that supposedly runs school politics. 90% of the members of these Old Row fraternities and sorrorities don't even know who the Machine representatives are. The ridiculous thing is that the non-Greeks could literally make the "Machine" (which is nothing more than a voting bloc) obsolete if they gave a s### about campus politics and actually got behind candidates and voted. Furthermore, most of the fraternity and sorrority members on campus thought the Machine was a joke.

I think what is fratty depends on where you are.
Like wearing North Face or Patagonia might make you fratty in a certain town, while wearing it in an area with actual snow and outdoors activities just makes you middle class.

That's what I assumed. If it's that well known, it's not that important.

Florida greeks are like the greeks in big 10 schools. Hair gel and jerseys on gamedays. Yalls student body is terrible.
The frats wear this to games in Gainesville? I haven't seen it. Maybe you've been more than me though?

we have gone down the list though, with this new influx of NJ,NY,PA,OHIO bs coming in.

there is a difference between being in a fraternity and being "fratty"
Florida just seems like the school that kids like to wear their Letter Jerseys, like sororities do.

USCe would have a good system but their administration seems hellbound to ruin it.
i guess you are referring to the recent shutdown of rush for the recent rush parties that have involved alcohol, arrests, strippers and hospitalization. it's been a while since i was at USC, but my experience was Columbia had the best bar scene since it was an urban town. Many fraternity parties were merely starting points to going out late in 5 Points. on campus events had to be over by 1am, whereas the bars never closed. it was pretty common to go Group Therapy at 1:30am and stand in line for one hour. also, it was legal to have alcohol in public, so you could drink outside the bars or carry beer from one bar to another. however, i believe the City has since prohibited these practices that made 5 Points great.
to an earlier poster, USC does have it share of hippie & grunge like most schools. remember it's where Michael Phelps got photographed smoking pot. but UGa has a great alternative scene because of the music culture. we used to go see R.E.M. play in bars when I was in high school. At Carolina, I wasn't part of a fraternity but rather an Order.

Over time it's gotten worse here.
I agree what's going on isn't totally legal, but the things that used to be done, are being cut down by Greek Life Administration.

I decided to go against the grain.
Maybe you should just pull up the thread about "Game day Drinks" and go by who admitted they drank cheap stuff and the ones who ooohed and aaahed over the mention of a new single malt Scotch.

Say some shite about Minerva or chant, "If you can't go Greek, go TKE to see who gets mad.

Damn Right!
I was social and rush chairman of the Kappa Sigma house in Fayetteville back in the early 2000's.
24% Greek Freshman Male
36% Greek Freshman Female
While I was on campus the first Black girl got into Kappa Kappa Gamma house and that was a MASSIVE story. It had never been done before.
Don't listen to all these hippies talk, Greek life exploded at UAF even after I was there. Of course we all lived directly in the house out of high school. Yes, we did rush parties in Memphis, Dallas, Little Rock, East Ark, South Ark, during the summer then had our Bid Day then moved directly into the fraternity house before school started.
We never lived in the crap arse dorms as freshmen. We started parting 2 weeks before school and it never stopped until you moved out of the house.
Gosh, the good ole days of Paddling my brother with a sawed off Boat Ore will forever be a fond memory of mine. Not to mention calling the Kappa Sigma House phone and yell at a freshmen to pick you drunk arse up off Dickson street.
I personally booked the band Triple 6 Mafia 2 years in a row to come play at the Kappa Sigma house. Every hot girl on campus would show up along with all those hippies.
If were weren't Greek at Arkansas you weren't crap, period.
I WHOLE lot went down in this house.
See the deck outside..
Yes, we (of course not me) hit golf balls at the Pike House and shattered windows. Not to mention hurling whiskey bottles of that roof at Tennessee fans that wan't a fight.
I'm totally smiling from ear to ear.
