Dude, Auburn has, I don't know, 19 9+ win seasons since 1981 or something like that
I looked. They have 17 seasons of 9 or more wins over that 34 year period. That means they also have 17 season of 8 or less wins. They are just as likely to win 8 or fewer as they are to win 9 or more. Also, they have 7 seasons (or 20%) of 5 or fewer wins during that time compared to 9 seasons of 10+ wins.
By contrast, Alabama has 20 seasons of 9+ wins over that same time with only 4 seasons (12%) of 5 wins or less. Bama has 16 seasons of 10+ wins during that time.
My point, AU belongs in the very good category.

How many of those 20 9+ win seasons came before Saban?
I see your point. I think where we are differing is that you said consistency, not consistently elite. Auburn has been consistently very good and, outside of Florida, has arguably been the most stable SEC program since the 1980s.

Iunno. Stock market has been killing me recently, working in oil and gas is sketchy as shite right now, and wedding/bachelor party season is in full force. The one I have to be the best man in is in August so depending on how Vegas goes, and if I'm still floating around in the oil field at said time, will really determine. I'm down for something though. Maybe $500?

Correct me if im wrong, but Auburn went 3-9 recently right?

Well, Bama has 7 consecutive 10 win seasons under Saban, so that means that 13 of those 20 9+ win seasons came before Saban. We are talking about a 34 year period of time, so if you take out Saban's 9+ wins and his 8 seasons, Bama still has 13 seasons of 9+ wins in 26 years.

sure. we can revisit this closer to when the season begins if you'd like. Give everyone time to see if our respective teams are healthy.

You are correct.
Auburn has been far more consistent than Tennessee since the 1980s.

Auburn has been very inconsistent. One year they are great the next can suck. Return most of a NC game team? Struggle to win 8 the next season.

Only post-Tuberville.
Auburn had nine-consecutive seasons of 8+ wins from 1982 - 1990. They then followed up that run with four more seasons of 8+ wins from 1993 - 1996. Finally, they had six consecutive seasons of 8+ wins from 2002 - 2007.
Here, I'll dumb it down for you. Bolded seasons have more than 8+ wins.
1981
1982
1983
1984
1985
1986
1987
1988
1989
1990
1991
1992
1993
1994
1995
1996
1997
1998
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004
2005
2006
2007
2008
2009
2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
That's pretty consistent, no matter how you slice it.
Again, they haven't been consistently elite, but they have, year in and year out, been a solid team in the most ferocious division in college football.

Weve still never gone 3-9, or even 4-8 for that matter

when did 8 wins become the metric for success? Maybe your point is that they are consistent and everyone else's point is that they are not consistently very good or elite. Consistently winning 8 games is not good.
Again, I'd like to see them bump together back-to-back 10 wins seasons more than once every quarter century before I'm willing to put them in the elite category. Why are you struggling with that?
