This was in the 2008/2009 time frame before the events involving Colorado to PAC-10 and Nebraska/Missouri talking to the Big 10 with Nebraska leaving.
"Going back more than 10 years, I became aware of a six-month or longer effort between Larry Scott, the Pac-10 and DeLoss Dodds about Texas and other schools going with them to the west coast. That was done without other schools being talked about. Larry Scott showed me a complete schedule for all sports for a 16-team conference. It had been going on for months and months without us knowing it."

It started falling apart when Texas demanded Nebraska raise its standards.

Sure thing swamp rat. Just try and do better than 5-5 this year, if you can.

So when the Big 12 was created, and the new rules were put in place..
1) Did Texas solely make all of the rules for the Big 12?
2) Do you believe that the Big 12 should have allowed Prop 48 players? These are partial qualifiers who only met 1 of the NCAA’s entrance requirements. > 700 SAT & 2.0 GPA
I have no idea when these rules were discussed, or who made them, but I do know that the Big 12 had to sign off on them in some way shape or form. Someone could have told them to frick off..
Even if Big Bad Texas forced everyone else to sign off on them, that makes everyone at fault, including Texas.
What probably happened is that the Presidents of the Big 12 signed off on the new rules together, and as a league, they did not want to allow Prop 48 players anymore. The Big 10 didn’t have them. The PAC didn’t have them. Why should the Big 12?
To your point, I agree. Nebraska always blamed Texas for losing their Prop 48 players and therefore they were always looking to get out of the Big 12.
Was how exactly is that all Texas’s fault?

This stuff is so predictable from you folks. Win something…anything…of importance. I mean, you got the win last season. Congrats. Nice job in the Orange Bowl too. For your sake, I hope that’s the best you have. Otherwise, enjoy not winning a title in your lifetime. I’ll fondly remember at least 3.

Texas proposed the standard.
You think A&M cared back then? Lol.

Who knows? I guess it will always just be Big Bad Texas..
I did find this interesting..
Missouri & Big 10 Talks - Dec 2009
I believe this is a full 6 months before the Pac 16 deal was even announced. From what I can tell, the Big 10 started talking to schools about 6 months before that in hopes of expanding to 12 in order to have a conference championship game.

That was the second time. The first time Texas was holding talks with the PAC-10 without consulting any other schools.

"It all started when Loftin found out Texas was talking to the Pac-10 about joining and bringing multiple schools including Texas A&M with it. That prompted a phone call to then-commissioner Mike Slive in 2009 -- he got his number by asking his AD Bill Byrne to ask his son Greg for it -- and gauged whether the SEC would have interest in adding Texas A&M.

What about Texas standards to do what is best for themselves and Oklahoma. Leave others to accept what been given to the rest of the schools.

Exactly. Maybe Nebraskans are just dumb. Who are we to judge?

So Texas should not look out for their own best interests during a negotiation? I would expect any school to look out for their own self interest. It doesn’t mean that they will always get everything that they want.. and if they do, that is because the other schools either agreed that it helped them, or they didn’t care, or they didn’t want to cross Big Bad Texas. And if that last option is the answer, then that is their fault for allowing Texas to bully them.
It’s pretty simple. The guy with the biggest swinging dick is going to have the upper hand until he is faced with one or many who will stand up to them.
Bottom line: Every single school should look out for their own self interest to the extent that they can get what they want. When they can’t get it all, they are forced to back down or go in a different direction. That is life. It happens all around us every day.
