Was that hire the fastest HCing hire by any SEC program?
I mean, if that's your guy then I get it... or was it just a reactionary hire?

Keith pulled Golding to the side weeks ago to prepare for this possibility. That’s why.

I think so. DeBoer was pretty fast, but not that fast.
Saban retired on Jan 10. Alabama contacted DeBoer that evening to schedule a meeting. They meet and made an offer to DeBoer on Jan 11.
His hire was announced on Jan 12.
So less than 48 hours in a real coaching search. I don't think it's possible to beat the Golding hire. They already knew before Kiffin left IMO.

So he knew weeks ago that he had no intentions of letting Lane coach thru the playoffs.

Absolutely reactionary.

100% reactionary. Carter wouldn’t have been talking to Sumrall and Golesh had Pete been the plan all along

Very good hire.
I remember the days when Bama fans were saying "good riddance!"

Why should OM have let him?

He's going to be an HC that's going to coach a playoff game, something Lane has never done.

Absolutely

It was an immediate move to show confidence and continuity to not get shafted by the cfp committee. I don’t know if it will work but better than not having a named head coach going into selection.

they went the cheap route...knew they could pay millions less for a coordinator

Allowing Kiffin to stay and coach the playoffs would have been extremely stupid for Ole Miss.

Why? Other programs are doing it after coaching changes.

Because Lane has already shown he was incapable of handling the responsibilities of both jobs.

Because they are going from smaller programs to larger programs where there isn't much to take, nor do they have a reputation for burning down most everything when leaving other jobs.
Ole Miss would have had a guy spending the next month using the playoffs to take Ole Miss resources, talking to the players he wants to transfer daily, while also promoting himself for LSU.
Like it or not, Lane is there for Lane and Lane only.
