Not sure how accurate but there was a post on X going viral about some military members stationed in NC trying to get a few days leave to check on their families and they were denied due to being on “standby” for the Israel/Iran conflict. Many are pissed because the soldiers feel they are putting another country first over their families (AKA American citizens). I’ll look for an update as this was yesterday so it may have been resolved. Lord protect these people.

Ok, let’s have the discussion.

All my vehicles have collapsed containers and water purification straws in them. It’s a temporary fix to what should be a temporary problem. I keep 2 changes of clothes (1 hot weather and 1 cold weather) an Etool, a handsaw, chemlights, something to read. I also try to keep a charged battery pack to charge phones with. I keep contact solution and cases, a basic first aid kit with 2 tourniquets. And a small toolkit.

When it’s cold I add a blanket and sleeping bag(reall compact) and something to eat.

I spend too much time in the mountains to not have basic shelter in place for a day or 3 on me.

At home I have solar instead of gas/LP/Diesel but am looking at solar that also uses LP for small portable stuff.

Of course guns and ammunition and weapon lights etc but does everyone have a basic kit?

Everyone should have a shelter in place kit in their home. Also know your local vegetation especially if in the country so you know what’s edible and not. Water sources and purification options are a must.

People on the ground in NC are begging for military helicopters to be commissioned to help pick up people that are literally stranded on hillsides. They've been ignored, denied, or been told that those units are designated for the Middle East.

People in S. GA have been begging for Nat Guard to help secure the areas, and have also been ignored and denied.

Incorrect.

The U.S. DOD:

quote:

At the request of FEMA, the Secretary of Defense has authorized the movement of up to 1,000 active-duty Soldiers to support the delivery of food, water, and other critical aid "over the last mile to the point of need" to communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.

How often are active duty military deployed Stateside? Can you name one instance?

Take it up with this guy:

request for helicopters

As for S. GA, I have a lot of family on the ground there.

But hey, believe what you read.

The National Guard is designed to assist in matters such as these. That's their point. We've become accustomed to deploying them, but that's not their primary purpose at all. It's to aid in defense and natural disasters.

I couldn't give a shite less who is reposting the content. The individual in the video is from TikTok, and is from the 30A area. If you listened to what he said, you'd hear that he's actually on the ground in NC, using his own equipment at his own expense.

It's Current Year. Citizen reporting on the crisis on the ground is who actually knows what's going on. The response to this has been flat-footed, to put it kindly.

I spoke to a coworker today out in that mess. He’s being told he will be without power for another two weeks. He has a well that needs electricity to pump water. Currently running on a generator.

I live in upstate SC. It’s not good. Infrastructure was not built for this nor the response teams. All in all though…it will recover although fear now though is the port strikes. Our stores, gas stations, etc lost everything so importing goods to “return to normal” now is troubling.

In the grand scheme of things though. We are ok. West Sc and NC are heart breaking. Chimney rock was wiped completely off the map. Asheville nc is not accessible other than by air. No water, food, cell service, electricity and all bridges / highways in were destroyed or collapsed.

There are literally moms on roofs with newborns hoping for choppers kind of territory. It truly is like that. The biggest upset to SC was that duke energy was known to have accepted a 2 million dollar deal with Clemson on Friday (day of shite hitting the fan) to allocate resources to maintaining the Clemson Stanford game delaying assistance at least at the infrastructure level. It just is a pain point but not an indictment.

All the while, many are missing in NC. I have lots of local photos. Many troubling. The Carolina’s weren’t ready for this. So just a few spare minutes of your time each time to pull for some people right now who feel all is lost or have never had to pray for some of the things they ask for now.

I have boots on the ground there in Asheville, Unicoi and Iron Mountain. They've sent me pictures of several helicopters today so I'm not sure who's right or wrong.

I do tend to believe my family and friends with their info, over some TikTok'r.

ETA:

Also have family in Bristol, Johnson City and Sevierville. All have been saying the same thing.

Don't make things political if you can help it. Those people don't care right now

*This wasn’t supposed to be a political issue*

This was supposed to bring awareness of the of the devastating situation after Helene ravaged our areas. People are dead, people are dying, people are missing. Billions of dollars in damages has been done to property and infrastructure. It will take years to recover if ever.
It was also meant to let some of us know that we can help, if you want to.
But oh my God! Some of the information that has been posted was done by maga supporters, so let’s make this political. Sad. When I posted the videos I was getting info that was being sent by people that were there. Believe me or not I didn’t concentrate on who sent them, only that they were there and I recognized the areas.

This isn’t a political issue. But some have to make it one.
