Sounds like this is coming from a fan who never won a National Championship or made it to a final four.

Funny this argument doesn't work for us in football...

College basketball and college football are very, very different sports. College football is very tradition heavy whereas in basketball you have programs from all levels competing on a fairly even playing field.

You will have a hard time convincing anyone that Arkansas is on the level of a UK, KU, UNC, Duke. Tradition will not bring Arkansas basketball back. A big time hire will.

but nobody would make the argument that Arkansas is on the level of UNC, KU, UK, Duke.

coaching does rule all, but tradition matters to a large extent in the level of coach you can attract.

Outside of about 5 big programs (UNC, UK, KU, Duke, etc), college basketball success has very little to do with the program and everything to do with the coach

mostly agree

there are regional interests and home field recruiting advantages... but esp in basketball where kids want to go pro ASAP... it's probably mostly about the coach

They need a big time nationally recognized hire and need it badly.

Kinda

They need the right guy and it seems like fewer programs are willing to search for a young and talented coach with potential... most want to hire a proven commodity

But of course if you can find the right young coach and keep him that would be even better than hiring a guy already in his 50s or older

I don't claim to be an expert on Arkansas basketball obviously, but some of the entitlement fans within the Arky program sound a lot to me like Bama football fans during our struggles who thought that the program was bigger than the coach and that any coach we hire should come in on our terms, at our price, and work their way up "the Bear way."

College sports is no longer like that. When you identify a big time coaching talent, you pay him well and let him run things the way he wants them run. Keep meddling in your tradition and the glory days while making coaches work through the good ole boys and you will have the same old average seasons. Sometimes a coach who is bigger than the program is not a bad thing.

Someone said Mike Anderson 2.6 mil. Press conference later today. Can't say if it's legit or not.

USA Today and Street & Smith labeled us the #7 All-Time program in 2002.

Granted, that's 9 damn years ago but I think we have every fricking right to expect our hires to be big time, and that they come understanding that they have big shoes to fill.

I understand though how that's not necessarily the case in the SEC shy of Kentucky.

Sexton said:

“We’ve been in discussions with them for several weeks now. Those are ongoing discussions. Nothing is imminent this second so I can’t really speak to it.

“There should be some resolution to that in the next few days.”

Sexton did not mention Arkansas in his comments.

Last week a source who spoke to Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden about Anderson’s contract situation told me that Alden had agreed to bump the coach’s salary to $2 million per season but would not go any further.

Last Friday I reported, “A head coach at a major program told me he was told by a coach Arkansas had contacted about the job that Mike Anderson will not be offered the job.”

Not flaming; serious question. Why is Mike Anderson such a hot commodity when he averages losing 10 games per year over his HC career? He had one Elite 8 finish but other than that, nothing spectacular. Again, just asking.......

It doesn't suck to be a coach in some ways

He's had decent not great results at MU and now people want to pay him 2.6 million a year?

I guess that's the going rate... amazing what a free market does when there are pressures to win now
