I hate this happened but I feel this has been blown way out of proportion. There is ALOT worse that goes down on Bourbon Street every night.

I'd imagine it's plead out, I doubt the 18 yo wants to take the stand.

I just said I did. Are you of the belief that NOPD's sexual crimes division should focus on this case as opposed to the numerous other ones that I'm sure they have?

That's been established. But those people aren't dumb enough to videotape themselves committing a crime and putting it on the internet for everyone to see.

And the fact that this took place on Bourbon Street is no excuse.

I hope he is not paying these lawyers very much. I would prosecute this case as his lawyers have basically agreed that he has committed the crime in the letter.

Then you'd be forcing the 18 yo into depositions and testifying in public and to a grand jury. The indecent exposure is a slam dunk, but sexual battery isn't without testimony from the alleged victim.

NOPD works multiple cases on a daily basis. They've even had some that are less severe than this one.

I did not realize the victim was only 18. Damn he could have just as easily of been 17 and that would have made the crime about 10 times worse in the eyes of the public.

Again, it absolutely amazes me that the teabagger's attorney pretty much outed Downing as almost the very definition of a sexual predator by pointing out that the victim was unconscious and this should somehow be taken into consideration, favorably for Downing.

quote:

The term "sexual predator" is often considered distinct from "sex offender". Many U.S. states also see these differences legally. A sexual offender is a person who has committed a sexual offense. A sexual predator is often used to refer to a person who habitually seeks out sexual situations that are deemed exploitative.

I hope this guy gets his arse nailed to the wall. The ppl in here that are making light of this are sickening. What if this had been you? or your son this happened to? If it was a LSU fan who did this I would feel no different it has nothing to do with sports. What makes it worse is that this guy was 32 years old. What kind of person does something like this?

So they are going to use the "he was too drunk to remember it" as one of his defenses?

Frat boys everywhere await the success of that defense.

"Roofies at the ready, boys!"
