Alabama will beat their eyes shut.

Washington is a toss us the rest of the teams show no reason they should be improved over last year.
I get what you are saying to a degree, but why is Auburn going to be improved over last year. You lost 4 of 5 Olinemen that started in the SECCG, lost your top 2 RBs, lost your best pass rusher, best LB and two best guys in the secondary.
I also realize that every time I think Auburn will have a tough year, they have a big year!

The biggest difference is when AU has a decent QB. Under Saban (not previously), Bama has been able to compensate for an average QB. AU was not able to do it the last 20 years. This year AU has a decent QB.
QBs since 07:
B Frazier: 3-9
C Todd: 8-5
Newton: 14-0
Trotter: 8-5
Marshall: 20-7
White/Johnson: 15-11
Stidham: 10-4
Three on that list were better than average QBs and the records correspond to that position.

Really not getting why so many are picking Washington to win game 1.
That is a PAC team, admittedly a pretty good one. But in no way, shape, or form is that roster as good as what Auburn has.
So to me, if Washington wins, it is strictly due to coaching. Because Auburn definitely has better Jimmies and Joes.
I don't watch the PAC that often anymore, but seriously Southern Cal is usually the most physically talented team in that league.
Offhand I'd say A&M, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, from the West alone have better talent than Southern Cal. And if you put any of MSU, Ole Miss or Arkansas on the field eyeball they would compare very well to the marquee team of the PAC.
So who knows, Malzahn may screw things up and lose it. But my personal take is Auburn wins, if on talent alone.
This isn't 2005 with Pete Carroll recruiting at Alabama level. This is 2018 and for the moment, at least, Texas and Ohio State are about the only teams that could reasonably expect to outtalent a major SEC school, from outside the Southeast.

Losses to Washington, Georgia, Alabama and some bowl opponent.

Misleading. Prince Tega, Horton, and Herrell are all Juniors who started in multiple games last year. Harrell started against UGA and Bama and should have started in the SECC. There are really only two spots to fill with unproven talent. JB Grimes is a better pure coach on the offensive line IMO as well. The line as a whole will benefit from his coaching.

Not true. Kam Martin was 2nd in the team in rushing last year and lead the team in YPC.

lost your best pass rusher
Non-Issue. Holland didn't even get drafted. I was a fan of the guy last year, but he 100% benefited from playing with 4 legit NFL d-lineman, several of which require extra attention/double teams. We bring back our entire d-line and the two guys filling Hollands shoes this year (Big Kat and TD) are both 5* caliber players who will have no problem getting around the edge.

best LB
False. Deshaun Davis was/is the heart of our defense and our best LB. I assume you were referring to Tre Williams, who didn't play in half the games last season due to injury.

I'm going to give you this one. Mainly because I feel bad about how off you were on the rest. Dinson, Dean, and Davis are a really good starting point in the secondary for us, but there are the most holes to fill back there.

My money is on us beating UGA, although I hope it is Bama. Can't realistically win the West without beating them.
Count me in the group though that thinks we could slip up against A&M at home. Something weird about that series.
AU typically loses to AnM, Bama, and UGA in even years.

I’m very worried about our OL, which will be the difference in 8-4and 11-1, imo.
JB Grimes is a mediocre OL “coach” and an awful recruiter so the quicker he is no longer on our coaching staff, the sooner our program will consistently take the next step.
