Pretty much every team does that with silent signals 100% of the time.

You've never done it. You've never played a team that runs this offense.

You're going to have to communicate or you'll get burned fast.

So by all means, be really REALLY loud.

We want you to.

Um... we played this offense last year under Heupal. Different players, sure, but the same offense. Our coaching staff has played Mike Leach before at MSU and he does similar things. So did Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley. Not exactly the same of course, but similar tempo and adjustments.

UGA is going to probably play with 5 DB's the whole game. The speed of the offense is mainly a problem when you have to substitute to be able to defend certain formations.

UGA doesn't have fat-asses on the DL who need to take frequent breaks, our LB's are incredibly fast and our DB's in addition to being fast are also fairly big. Our starting CB's are 6-0, 190 and 6-2, 210. Our 3 safeties for the nickel are 6-1, 205, 5-11, 195 and 5-10, 200. They're big, hard hitting guys who can stop the run and run fast enough to defend the pass.

What's funny is that if UGA decides to respond with an up tempo offense (something we do occasionally but not often) it's actually MUCH harder to defend than UT's is. The reason is we have TE's with WR speed who can also block the hell out of you.

This means we can send our 2-TE set in and if you put linebackers in we can spread it out and keep passing to TE mismatches for gains and not let you sub... or if you put safeties in we can run power sets and overrun your DL and march down the field.

We simply don't do it because we rarely need to and we prefer our defense to rest up for the next drive.

You make me sad that DVs don't count for anything on here. Every 100 you rack up should put you in timeout for at least a week.

Yep. Been saying for a while that there are real Tennessee fans and alters who pretend to be fans, just to flame the board.
Why they aren't banned, I have no idea.

Wrong. You've NEVER played defense against this offense with 90 thousand fans screaming at the top of their lungs.

You've played defense against this offense in a total quiet environment.

holy crap dawg fans are fking stupid.

UGAY defense, if it wants to be effective against us, NEEDS to be able to communicate.

If this were true then why is Kirby asking the crowd to be loud?
How did the crowd affect the Arkansas game so badly last year?

I’m an SEC fan - no particular allegiance.
But I would love for the puke orange guys to give a real whipping to the leg humpers.

Lol.

Okay then. Keep believing UGA needs silence to adjust to offensive formations.

Most defenses are coached before hand so that individual players should know how to adjust to a formation change without needing to talk to anyone. Coaches (or a single player who's the "qb of the defense" will signal everyone else with hand signals if a more drastic change is needed (say to move a safety up to play the LB spot if the offense shifts to a power run setup without substituting)

The only time players are yelling to each other is if someone did something wrong and needs to be corrected. It's not a central part of defensive adjustments.

Since we've played this system before, the coaches will prepare the players to know what adjustments to make given what UT does. They were able to do this the first meeting because of watching film.

The simple reality is defenses are not really impacted by crowd noise for anyone unless they already screwed up what they were coached to do.

Offenses are much more affected. Audibles are affected because they... are audible. You can still make a play change with hand signals (either from the QB or the sideline), but that's not as uniform as defensive signals. And the big impact is simply calling for the snap. You either have to use a silent count or listen for the sound. Silent counts rely on players counting at the same cadence... which is hard to do and leads to more false starts. That's why home teams are loud when their team plays defense. It has little to no impact on their team and a larger impact on the opposing offense.

UT is not special in that regard. No opposing defense needs to talk to adjust to their changes.

You'll find out, just as Alabama, LSU and everyone else on our schedule has found out.

Ask the LSU fans how well their defense was able to adjust to our offensive formations with 90 thousand screaming fans in their ears lmao.
