I think he means we've both been good for only about 5 years, which is true.
And no one considered UA/LSU a rivalry 10 or 20 years ago.

You're not a Bama fan or an LSU fan, so you have no say what is a rivalry to us. A rivalry is not one-sided. Both sides have to hate each other and see the game for what it is. We Bama fans just don't, even if LSU fans wish it to be.
If LSU or Bama stops being as good this game will be back to being a regular game.
I guess if Hugh Freeze makes Ole Miss great and they have a good 5-10 year run they'll be Bama's rivals as well huh?

A&M and Arkansas are kind of a rivalry and was pretty big back in the SWC days. Who know if this will ever become big or not.
I think having this game at JerryWorld for the next 14 years will stiffle this rivalry from reigniting. Having the visitors on your CAMPUS breeds contempt when you have the various idiots being idiots. Since the game will be in Dallas, there won't be as many students, thusly lowering the idiot factor on both sides.

You're wrong.
In 2000 LSU fans tore down the goal posts after beating an Alabama team that would finish 3-8.
I remember the 0-3 loss to #1 Alabama in '79. That hurt more than the loss to USC the same year (both were ranked #1 when the Tigers played them.)
When the Bear's protege took the reigns at LSU in the mid 60s, Bryant put LSU on Alabama's schedule permenantly - and it was on.
But all this, "You don't know what a rivalry is" shite is just that - shite. A rivalry is pretty much whatever you want it to be. There doesn't have to be hate, the record doesn't have to be close, it's in the minds of the fans and players.
Curiously, the word "rival" comes from the latin word "rivulet" from where we get "river". It initially indicated different people who used the same river - competing for the same resources (SEC championships).
It's not some arcane mystery or some shite. But I could see where Bama fans would want to deny a rivalry with LSU, LSU eventually destroys their rivals' programs. SEE: Tulane, Ole Miss.
We'll send the Tide packing to CUSA!

I've thought about that as well. However, Arkansas just kind of mailed it in last year. They had high expectations, but didn't even sell out their allotment and didn't bring their band. Kind if weak if you ask me. Back in the SWC, Arky fans showed up in droves.

No UA fan considered LSU to be a rival in 2000, and only a small portion do today. It must have been the most one sided rivalry ever back in 2000.

So you admit to a lack of knowledge, that's a good first step.
Gump nation was devastated when they lost at Tiger Stadium for the first time in 30 years.
Bear was devastated when they lost to LSU in 1982 calling it one of the most complete beatings any of his teams had ever taken.
Bryant also said of LSU's Tiger Stadium: "Baton Rouge happens to be the worst place in the world for a visiting team. It's like being inside a drum."
To say that the Alabama-LSU matchup has been inconsequential is ignorant at best, and missing the value of a great traditional rivalry. It's BEEN a big game for a long time - and that's due in no small part to the efforts of Bear Bryant.

Wrong again, SEE: LSU-Ole Miss.

The Army Navy game is a game that regardless of how good they are I always try to watch. Just like supporting those guys and think it is a GREAT rivalry.

Learn to read. However, our match-ups have definitely been closer since the end of Bear. I'm pretty sure our records are close to even.
I said the exact same thing, comprehension should be your friend. I don't hate you guys, considered UofA. Alabama fans make me

I don't have the answer to that. The importance of the game is different to each fan. In my lifetime of football I watched growing up, Alabama wasn't a premier program. The Auburn/Florida games were bigger games because they were better competition. Things have changed since then and the Alabama game has evolved to be the better match-up. I don't give a shite if you hate us. If your hatred toward a program includes poisoning one of our precious oaks, no thank you.

LSU currently is the only program that year in and year out can play at the same level of completion as Alabama.

LOL @ all the bama fans that came to defend their tradition in this thread... yall act like in 2011, when LSU beat the best Bama team ever, in BDS (which everyone at the time thought would knock Bama out of the championship game), yall were just like "oh well, I still really like LSU. I have no reason to dislike them. I hope they continue to beat us in potentially season ending games!!!" Yall were pissed aand wanted nothing more than revenge in the BCS championship game. And if you didn't, then you are a shitty Bama fan... I've lived my whole life without a "rival" so I just kind of hate the teams that are the best (UF AU UA) and that we play every year, but dont act like if 15 years from now, UT still blows and LSU is consistently your hardest game, yall will still be buddy buddy with LSU and hate UT

You're missing the point. Good or not, I would rather beat tennessee and auburn than LSU. Yeah, losing to LSU sucks. Losing to ANY team sucks. But losing to a shitty team sucks 100x worse than losing to a good team. And losing to auburn and tennessee is just a fricking miserable experience.

That's just calling a spade a spade.
Bryant didn't lose too often, so it probably was one of the worst beatings the team took. Also, Tiger stadium is hard for any team to play in. I fail to see how either of those quotes represents a rivalry.

I didn't care about revenge. I just wanted to win the BCSNCG regardless of who our opponent was.

So I'm supposed to hate every team that happens to beat us? Can't just say "Good game" and move on? I've seen us lose big games to Florida and Georgia as well, but I still don't dislike them.
