We obviously want to stay number one so we can dictate a path
-Rose Bowl and then
-Fiesta Bowl

We have fans everywhere, want to stay away from the South.

Tired of playing Georgia in Georgia, Texas in Texas in the postseason
(although last year in Dallas was amazing for the 20,000 of us that were there to see the Jack Sawyer scoop and score!)- quieted that crowd!

Yeah, this FEI ranking seems pretty useless. It produces wacky results, such as:

Oregon 3
Utah 5
Notre Dame 6

They are power ratings, not season rankings.

Well, these are efficiency based, but still power ratings.

I like using F+, which is a combination of FEI and SP+. But FEI has the best SoS metric.

And Utah having “efficiency” vs a Big 12 schedule is akin to Arch having “efficiency” at Newman high school

You can't really control for "garbage time" though, football is more complicated than that. It's just not a good basis for evaluating teams.

I think FEI is a very good rating system. Any rating formula will produce odd results (SP + does it every week). Strength of schedule is a problem with any national rating system because there are very few high level interconference games and those are concentrated in the early part of the season.

Fremeau does some smart things with his data. He throws out garbage time data based on a conservative algorithm, which helps remove differences in coaching philosophy (like fluffing up stats at every opportunity). He uses metrics like Points per Drive, which helps elminate differences due to scheme and pace of play, and Available Yards, which accounts for variabilities in starting field position and penalties. There's very little subjective analysis in Fremeau's ratings, and he doesn't tweak the method every season for goal-seeking purposes. His results have been good over time and bettors, among others, pay attention to his data.

Alabama and Oklahoma have played the toughest schedules, having played 8 and 7 top 30 teams each, respectively.

Contrast to OSU and Indiana, who have each played 4 teams in the top 30.

Its embarassing to see Ole Miss at number 6 with their dogshit schedule and rating

Everyone knows they don't deserve to be top 15 right now, but we have to pretend they won't get obliterated by whomever they get paired with in the playoff
