As much as I dislike Delany, I actually support this rule...nice compromise on the "conference champion debate" IMO....To be eligible, you must be a conference champion and in the top6. If there aren't four conference champions in the Top6 to fill the four spots, then the highest ranked team(s) will take the remaining spots.

If this rule was in place in 2011, it would have been

LSU vs Oregon
Bama vs Oklahoma State

I really like this rule....Oregon would have had a mammoth gripe IMO if Stanford would have gotten in the playoff over Oregon, which is what would have happenned if there was no conference champion rule in place.

Of course you and most LSU fans support this rule but unfortunately for y'all, it will not happen. Would you support an unranked Big East team and a 20th ranked ACC team playing for the NC with a 1 loss LSU left out?

LSU and Bama were the 2 best teams last year and both of them walked away with all the hardware.

so if its conference champs only, then we no longer rank individual teams! we only rank conferences. and the top 4 ranked conferences will send their champions to play for the nc.

but dont think for a minute that notre dumb will be left out. they will get a pass on the conference thingy.

Ya know, it might help if you read the proposed rule before posting about it and disagreeing with it.

Reading is your friend sir. It says conference champs in the top 6. I firmly believe that if you win your conference then you should deserve a shot at the Natty. That's the way it should have been from the get go. Again I say independents can either join a conference or GTFO.

I've read all the rules and that was suggested by the commissioners.

The most likely scenario will be the 4 best teams decided by the BCS will play for the NC and the top 10 can be chosen for BCS bowls with no AQ.

I know that some LSU fans want this scenario to pass cuz y'all can't get over last season but fortunately for everyone else, the sane decision makers are looking to the future and not the past.

ETA: I misspoke earlier about the Big East and ACC teams but the sentiment is the same. LSU and Bama could be #1 and 2 and one would get left out. How would LSU fans feel about that?

I agree. Getting rid of 'AQ' proviso has been discussed for a while, before 2011 'controversy'. The upside is at least 3 good BCS/major bowls, and that UM/VT travesty at Sugar will be less likely.

Under Delany's proposed rule, LSU and Alabama would have both been in the playoff last year.

It's not just LSU fans that believe conference champions deserve some degree of preferential treatment. There are quite a few people that feel that way, including Larry Scott and Jim Delany.

Unless I missed something, one would be left out because that proposed rule is for conference winners only and LSU and Bama can not both win the conf.

ETA: Okay I just re-read the proposed rule and I have no problem with it. When I first read it, I thought it was for conf winners only.

It is even more hilarious how illogical and short sighted LSU fans are being because they cant get over 21-0 and consider the future. 21-0 is over and done with. Think about the year 2016 when LSU might be ranked #3 at 12-1 and Florida #1 and yet #6 South Florida takes your spot in the playoffs because they won the Big East. You will probably all be blaming Slive and Birmingham instead of yourselves for siding with a bunch of pansies in the Big Ten

I agree with this post 100%. Although I thought that Okie State probably deserved to play in the title game over Alabama, the BCS had the two best teams in the country in the title game this year. It should be the top 4 teams. No other restrictions are necessary.

I read it again and would have no problem with that if it gets passed. I still think they should do away with AQ in BCS bowls.

Yeah, it's a decent rule...good compromise between the two sentiments (Conference champs only camp Vs Best teams regardless of conference camp)....gives preferential treatment to conference champs while still allowing really good teams that don't win their conference to make it as well).

I'm not sure if I am for or against but the anti-hyperbole claiming 20th ranked 4 loss team makes the title game seems far fecthed

I think this is still on the table. Before playoff talk picked up they were discussing only having one game with mandatory invite, BCS CG, the others could choose who they want.
