What I'd like to see is reducing the number of teams eligible for the CFP to 100, arranged in 10 divisions of 10 teams each, with each team playing a 9-game divisional schedule and specific tiebreakers set up uniformly across all divisions.

Instead of eliminating FCS games, require each team to play one home game against an FCS opponent, plus two teams from another FBS division (one home, one away).

The 10 divisional champs are seeded like they are now, with seeds 1-6 receiving a first-round bye. Playoffs begin first Saturday of December, with the 7 & 8 seeds hosting the 10 & 9 seeds on on their home fields. Winners advance to round two the following weekend, with the higher seeds also given home field advantage. Third round on NYE/NYD, resembling the current CFP setup utilizing the rotating bowl sites, and the championship in early January just like it is now.

The two finalists will end up playing either 15 games or 16, if they advance from the lower seeds.

This way, every regular season divisional game is important in determining the playoff representative, and the two FBS OOC games contribute to the seeding determination. The FCS game is a way of throwing a financial bone to the lower divisions. No FCS team will be permitted to play more than one FBS opponent, so the wealth can be spread more evenly.

The only problem would be determining the alignment of the divisions, and which 30 mid-majors/independents would be shifted to FCS. Of course the SEC would be simple, as it already has 10 teams that have been members since the league's inception more than 80 years ago.

Thoughts?

Agreed.

But it's pretty much the only way that a reasonable field of playoff opponents could be determined. The current system is far too dependent on off-field influence to be truly fair.

As for TV money, this system would certainly generate more viewer interest even without the haphazard conference championship games.

Get rid of conference championships, pick 8 teams. First round 2 weeks after the regular season. Problem solved..

We would have had 3 SEC teams in. Bowl games suck.

I'd rather a similar structure to the NFL. The haves and have nots need to be in separate divisions. Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, TN, Auburn, ATM along with the top six or so teams from the power five. Teams with the money and facilities to actually compete for NC regularly need their own division.

The playoffs are garbage. Bring back the BCS system.
