So let’s say that we have a larger playoff field this year. Alabama destroys Coastal Carolina but Devonta and Najee have season ending injuries in a meaningless playoff game. Sorry, I see more negative than positive of expanding the playoff.

Yea, let's expand the playoffs when we always only have 3 teams that ought to be there anyway. Coastal would have gotten dragged by any of the 4 this year. When coastal starts going into bds, Clemson, the swamp, etc and starts coming out with wins, multiple times, we'll talk.

If they do expand they need to incorporate byes into the mix. It would keep the regular season strong
You know, I've been saying this as well but careful what you wish for. If this is paired with the excessively long break between conference championships and the first round like we usually have, that could be a disadvantage to the best teams who come in rusty. Best start the playoff immediately if we're going to have meaningful byes.

fricking do away with the dumbass committee. The NFL has no committee. Your entry into the playoffs should be determined on the field via winning your conference. Period.
Saying 'period' doesn't just magically end the conversation. The NFL has wildcards. If we're modeling this after the NFL like you propose, how would you select the wild cards in college ball?

To follow this logically, I guess in our case you could split the current P5 conferences into their respective divisions (SEC West, SEC East) and take those "winners" as the 10 automatic qualifiers.
I was thinking go 8 teams at first, but yes, if we really wanted to the blue print is there to go whole hog on 24 team tournament. You are almost guaranteed that a G5 team or two would get in which would really boost their spirits. It wouldn't be just the same 4-6 teams over and over again like it is now.
