Football is a violent game played by men capable of being violent. Rules can be made to mitigate that fact but they are only capable of doing so much. If the hit in question makes one squeamish football may not be for them...it certainly wasn't the appropriate past time for the squeamish 30+ years ago when those kinds of hits were celebrated. The rules have changed, the fans, the players, the coaches and the game has lagged behind because, at the end of the day, it is a violent game played by violent men and the violence is a sizeable portion of the attraction...
