That influence would be their paycheck and their word.

Judges in Alabama are among the highest paid in the nation and also have one of the best pensions. When a judge retires, they understand as part of that retirement they can be called back to hear cases as needed. They don't pick up the phone and volunteer, they're assigned to cases by the state Supreme Court. Unless they've got real conflicts, they're duty bound to take those assignments.

I'm all for second chances and all that but this guy is the reason we have enough-is-enough type of laws. Evidently they won't do it but I wouldn't care if they threw the book at his entitled arse.

That fricker has had a few chances to straighten out. If killing two people doesn't straighten you out, nothing will. The kid sounds like a lost cause.

I think this kid had other incidents before and even worse - AFTER he killed those people.

It's mind blowing and total bullshite that he's basically getting away with it.

You mean letting everyone go that has money and influence. Joe Blow like me or you would be doing time.

This isn't an indictment of youthful offender status so much as its arbitrary and capricious application.

Youthful offender status is appropriate here.

If you mean this case, there is NO world where it is appropriate. It is virtually never granted in crimes of violence in Alabama and certainly not granted when the offender repeats the root cause of the incident MULTIPLE times after his initial arrest.

Had that been my family, homeboy would be getting a visit once he's released.

It has it's place. Let's say you turned 18 yesterday. Your 15 year old girlfriend turns 16 tomorrow. Last night, for a present she agreed to the secks and her parents walked in on you.

In Alabama you are 100% absolutely guilty of 2nd degree rape (one person under 16, the other more than 2 years older). If her parents decide to pursue charges, you're a convicted felon and a registered sex offender for the rest of your life - but if you're granted YO keep your nose clean until you're 21 and that all goes away. That's a fair and proper use of YO. The Bramblett case is not.
