Hmm... That could work as well.

Good feedback.

So far, only one coach has considered there to even be a problem. And that was the eternal arse that is Steve Spurrier.

So to have a solution, shouldnt there be a problem?

Spurrier is an arse but he was an early proponent of a playoff system. In large part because of Florida having to play FSU on top of their SEC schedule.

The solution is to expand to 10 conference games. You heard me. 10.

I think the nine game schedule is inevitable if the permanent rivalries are going to continue.

The best solution, however, is to end the permanent cross-division rivals and keep it at 8 conference games. Having the 4th non conference game means most schools are willing to schedule at least one solid BCS opponent per year. I enjoy those games.

now that we KNOW temporary scheduling is possible and apparantly not that difficult i like your solution. the schedule should be as balanced and equitable as possible and if, in the long run continues to be lop sided in favor of at least one school, i predict there will be trouble. i would have no problem with LSU going to the ACC.

^^^ this... Plus when the playoff system ramps up you can bet your arse there will be a SOS component that will favor the leagues that have 9 conference game's...

TV money + playoff will make it inevitable...

Um, no.

Though, I'm in favor of adding Florida State to the East and making FSU our permanent cross division game if we must play a permanent game each year. We used to play them in the 70s and 80s. I went to the last game in 1991. Could be a great little I-10 Gulf Coast rivalry if we played them every year. But FSU is a bunch of pussies and they've rejected SEC invites before (that's how Carolina ended up joining instead of FSU in '92).

I don't like it because UGA may not play some teams for 20+ years. Besides, the schedules balance out over the years. You never heard UGA fans complaining they had to play AU when their program was one winning.

Conference expansion has made the permanent rivalries unsustainable without expanding the conference schedule. I'd rather keep the four OOC games with at least one good BCS conference matchup, than go to nine conference games and three unappealing patsies.
