Why people like to hate on the military, I’ll never understand. Does everyone in Mississippi feel the way you do? There are some absolute bad arse special forces members that were in the Corps of Cadets. I thank them, and any other institution that can claim even one enlisted member. Uniting as Americans, especially when so many Marxists want to see this country fail, is important. Threads like these make me sad. Never thought Mississippi was California-light.

Yeah it was 2 years of JROTC in high school that guaranteed E2.

It doesn’t matter, they can be spotted from a mile away and are still treated like the boots they are.

I'll never understand how so many posters on this board are so eager to denigrate the military contribution of the school that commissions more officers than any school outside the academies.
Some just do D&C and don't commission. So what? Same thing happens at The Citadel and VMI. It's still an experience that instills some solid values.
Of all the things you could ridicule A&M for, I just don't get this one.

There were no worse officers to serve with than A&M grads. Combine Texas arrogance with a crippling Little Brother Syndrome (this time Annapolis grads instead of Longhorns) and you have your basic USMC Aggie. If I heard, "That's not the way we did it in the Corps of Cadets" I think I would have fragged someone.
VMI and Citadel guys were laid back. They knew all the bullshite they went through was just that - bullshite. A&Mers spent half their time Hullabaloo Caneck Canecking and the other half trying to win USNA guys' approval.

How did you come to that conclusion reading my OP and subsequent posts?

Thanks. Good info. Which two of the five service academies are capped?
Well, Imma go out on a limb and guess it's the two that don't actually commission military officers at all.
Coasties and Merchant Marine are not military. Very different experience at these academies.
ETA: Well, maybe not so different from the Chair Force Academy, but I digress.

That's pretty much consistent across the board until officers make O3. At that point, any advantage you might have had coming in is gone.

t is about as relevant as becoming an eagle scout
Eagle Scouts learn some useful skills, plus it develops their leadership abilities. I wouldn’t compare the two. Plus, the military actually recognizes Eagle Scouts with a pay rank bump up.
Makes you wonder about schools like VMI and the Citadel. I know several VMI grads. None were in the military.

From the numbers above, it looks more like a cheer/social club than a serious path to military service. Probably are taught some good life skills and have the option to accept a commission, but it looks like most do not.
You obviously have never been to College Station and watched the cadets do their physical training after classes. It isn't an easy life or way to get an education and you should read Douglas MacArthur's quote about Texas Aggies.

You can complete a 4 day training program with your local recruiting station and get the same benefit going in. Before you attempt to dispute this, I commanded a Recruiting Company for 2 years so I'm pretty sure I know how the process works.
The highest rank you can enter as enlisted without prior service is E4, and that requires a bachelor's degree or higher.

Never heard of the MacArthur quote. I have heard about the Patton quote that hasn't been attributed to any one person by name.

Yeah, JROTC.
It's funny, we had a rifle range and they kept the rifles(.22) at the school.
Things sure have changed.

I know several VMI grads. None were in the military.
So when they actually do join, my sample size of 1 indicates they do pretty well.

I'm not sure any of them have been credibly attributed to any of these guys.
I just go by the immense respect and deference accorded to them by George Washington himself.

We had M1 Garands for drill but they weren't able to fire or anything. This was roughly 20 years ago.

Gen. Douglas MacArthur, who evacuated to Australia during the siege, told A&M president T.O. Walton early on during the war, “A&M is writing its military history in the blood of its graduates, not only in the Philippines campaign but on the active fronts of the Southwest Pacific.” In the Corps of Cadets’ Standard, MacArthur goes on to say, “No name stands out more brilliantly than the heroic defender of Corregidor, General George F. Moore. Whenever I see a Texas man in my command, I have a feeling of confidence.”

Probably the two that don't commission Title X forces. Coast Guard and Merchant Marine are not DoD. They are DHS.
