Let's see which team gets a ring that says Big 10 Champions.

Penn state was the better team on that one day and even that was iffy. But overall give me Ohio state all day

Yes Penn State got fricked.
Penn St got to play in the B1G CG because Mich fricked up their own B1G CG and playoff berths by losing to 4-loss Iowa. Penn State won the CG, but fricked up their playoff berth by losing two games, one to 4-loss Pitt and by 39 points to Mich.
Penn State got fricked by Penn St.
Even James Franklin and his players understand they have no one to blame but themselves.
And for all the idjits saying you should just schedule cupcake OOC games, you need to realize that Washington would not have made it in over Penn St or Mich if either of those two had only lost one game.
Sidenote: Mich had THREE opportunities to beat OSU, once in regulation plus two overtimes. Failed all three.

They're a touchdown undid to USC

They did enough to get in title game BUT, lost twice, lost biggly and are average in an average conference.

And lost 2 games. Deciding the season based on one game against OSU is too small of a sample, you have to consider the season as a whole.
Regardless, conference championship games are utterly useless 9/10 times.

No. They are not.

Umh Penn State is tarnished. The big10 couldn't allow them to represent.

Was LSU the best team in the SEC in 2011? Hell no. Bama proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that conference champ doesn't necessarily equal the best team.

It's not a matter of being dense, it's a matter of seeing more than one data point. Using your myopic approach will lead you to impossible contradictions:
Penn State beat tOSU head to head, so they have to be in.
Michigan KILLED Penn State, and have the same record, so they HAVE to be in.
tOSU beat Michigan, so they have to be in.
And Pitt beat Clemson, so...
Since you have to eliminate head to head as the only factor, You are left with two other criteria: Conference championship, and performance against their schedule while factoring strength of opponents. Penn State wins the first argument, and loses the second.
If winning a conference championship were the ONLY factor, then Florida should have been in if they beat Alabama. That is nonsense. And that is why it's not so simple, and why tOSU got in, albeit slightly, over Penn State.

If it was Ohio State with their record, they get in. Penn State still has some karma left for taking up for Joe Pa.

Penn State won the B1G CG, but fricked up their playoff berth by losing two games, one to 4-loss Pitt and by 39 points to Mich.
Penn St beat Wisc in the B1G CG. Ohio St & Mich both also beat Wisc.
Ohio State's overall resume included more quality wins and only one close loss to a Top-10 team. Penn State's resume had less quality wins and two losses.
If Penn St had beaten Pitt, they would've probably ended up ranked ahead of Ohio State, maybe ahead of Clemson too, and Wash would've ended up at #5 spot.
Losses matter. Committee got it right.

No. See the Saban-Meyer rule. Any one loss Saban or Meyer coached team qualifies for the playoffs.

The only way a play-off will ever be fair is if every team has to earn their spot on the field. There should be no committee. Play-off spots should be locks based on who wins the conference championship. Sure, teams will still complain that they were better than the conference champ, but if a team doesn't earn it on the field then being better on "paper" doesn't mean shite. The game is not played on paper.
The problem is this will take a conference realignment and that probably ain't going to happen.

Exactly. As long as college football is a huge number of "FBS" teams where the bottom teams can't even make a game of it with the top teams, and schedules are so vastly different both in AND out of conference, there is no way to make it fair.
The only hope for something fair is to have conference realignment and schedules only involving teams with a pulse. Anything else is trying to compare apples and oranges and leads to what we have now.
