Towards the end of his LSU tenure, the game sure felt like it passed him by and he was no longer emotionally invested in it. His dad dying and health issues exacerbated that.
He might've been a decent stop gap for a talented team that didn't find their long term solution, but as a program rebuilder the hire made absolutely no sense.

He honestly should have retired from coaching after leaving LSU. He won a national championship and he had nothing left to prove.

Paul was a pretty damn good coach from 2008-2017. After we lost to Florida in the CWS Finals in 2017, Paul just got tired of the hard-core grind that is Major College Baseball.
Hiring Paul after being out of the game for 3 years was criminally negligent on Tanners part. Tanner was pure greatness as a Coach, but as an AD, you really have to scratch your head.

Well guys this past year, I took time off to get acclimated to USC. I forgot what pressure was.

Missouri might be keeping their coach, so there's still hope.

I would looking to see who might be worth picking up off the SC roster. A couple of promising young hitters but that's about it.
Some SC poster on here was saying KJ Scobey is definitely gone, freshman 3rd baseman from this year. One of their better younger players talent wise. Didnt have a great season (struck out a metric ton of times), but could really blossom over next year or two.
Had a good series against us going 4 for 11 with 2 doubles and a big HR

Tanner gets rid of Kingston (made tourney in '24) to better the program, only to go backwards with Mainieri (didn't make tourney in '25)
The Gamecocks deserve better.
