...referring to the overall SEC?

if USC was in it. USC is an old school that sits on the corner of the west coast with no real Major competition in it's area. I mean they are making such a big deal out of this upcoming game with ohio st. Even giving it a name..Last time we played Ohio st. we put in our second Team.

But in all reality, the best part about being in the SEC, when you win..and when you do go the distance, you know for a fact that your team has earned it.

As much as i like him and have hopes for his play now, Reggie Bush would not have ran all over SEC teams.

USC already is in the South, and they haven't won a SEC title yet.

In any case, SCAL wouldn't be SCAL if it were in the South. That's the most absurdly irrelevant hypothetical I think I've ever heard. Hey, McKnight, come hang out with all the glitz and glamour, with all the stars and media coverage, in ... Mobile, Alabama??? Maybe Savannah, Georgia??? Come on. Get the frick out of here.

No doubt the SEC is the best conference NOW. But it wasn't always that way. In fact the Big 10 still has a winning record against the SEC overall and since 2000 they still have a winning record over the SEC.

Oregon st and Washington are struggling big time

Which means that both have a chance to beat USC this year (OrSt on 9/25 and Wash on 11/1).

Head to head matchups between conferences in the regular season don't really tell you much information by themselves. Best teams v. worst teams matching up tell you little information unless the worst team beats the best team, which rarely happens. I suspect that if you went back and looked, most of the time in the head to head matchups, the favored team won. People tend to make entirely too much of these games without looking at the relative position of the teams within their conferences.

If the top teams in the Pac 10 play weaker teams in the SEC and the stronger teams in the SEC play the weaker teams in the Pac 10, you haven't really learned anything useful about the conferences, more than was already known. And if only one or two teams from each of the conferences are involved in a series and are mismatched in the games, that doesn't tell much either.

All the chest beating is based on too few data points to make such a big deal about it. Moreover one game as season doesn't make. Last year Tennessee lost to Cal, but as the season went on, Tennessee seemed to improve, while Cal fell apart. By season's end nobody thought Cal was a better team than Tennessee. So did the Cal victory over Tennessee last year prove the Pac 10 was better than the SEC? Hardly. Just look at what the teams did over the season, not just one game.

This year we are getting a couple of good matchups between top teams from the Pac 10 and the Big 10 and the Pac 10 and the SEC. These games may be more indicative because they are the strength of one conference against the other.

When is this old myth going to die? With limited exceptions, none of which lasted more than about 5 years, the SEC has always been the best conference in college football since the year it was founded.

Good grief. Washington is weak within the Pac-10. Bama would put a beat down on them.

Similar comparisons with other conferences would be as follows:

SEC 12-0 against ACC
SEC 10-1 against Big 10
SEC 10-2 against Big 12

And you know this after 2 whole weeks of football, where some of the teams you have posted only have played 1 game? Additionally, adding back in the 2 middle teams of the SEC makes it a stronger conference.

Bad arguement.

Still early in the season and I think the original post was close to the truth. None of us know the truth just yet. USC looked awesome in the first game but will they look that good consistently?

Biggest if in the whole lot of SEC teams is Alabama. You had them 5th in the SEC? Not saying original post was wrong but I would have put Tenn, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Auburn all ahead of Alabama! Tulane doubled the offensive output of Alabama!!!! Alabama's offense only scored 1 touch down the entire game!!!

Then again, Alabama looked good against Clemson. Will the real Alabama please stand up.

Year in and Year out the PAC-10 would get my vote as being the second weakest BCS conference behind the Big East.
