one dude - "will eric berry win the heisman?"
the other dude - "he might, hes definitely got a good shot at it."

these two guys were dead serious.

i know hes a great player, but theres no way a defensive player wins the heisman this year with all the hype surrounding tebow, mccoy, and bradford. and no way in hell a defensive player will ever win it from a team thats not even in the picture for a championship.

The fact that they think Kiffin will actually be a successful coach in the SEC is even more ridiculous than that IMO.

Berry has about a 0% chance this year.

He's still a great player, but he'll need 8 picks and a few offensive/return TDs to get significant votes.

BTW, I don't think Berry will win the Heisman. He's insanely talented, but no defensive player is winning this year no matter the team.

i dont remember 3 qbs being hyped up that year. Esp 2 that already won heismans

Fwiw he shouldn't have been in the discussion that year bc he was hurt for half of it.

Goes to show how BS the heisman really is. I would take Eric Berry in the NFL draft over any of the three players you mentioned.

Eric Berry should be at least invited to NYC if he has the type of year expected of him. If he's getting touches on offense and scores some tds on top of his stellar defense, he should receive some 1st place votes, regardless if UT is any good. of course he probably won't get invited, bc/ the heisman has become all about media hype and politics.

Sweaty, rotund orange tank top fella #1: "Man, this new blood for the Vols is really doing wonders for me in the boudoir. My wife calls my downstairs mancanyons 'the coaching staff,' and it's great."

Portly, dewy T-t-shirt fella #2: "I get it: staff."

Fella #1: "No, part of me is tall and shiny and chipper like Lane. My scrotum is Monte. My a-hole is Orgeron."

Fella #2: "I mailed my nipple to Peyton."

Why would he? He's not the best defensive player in the nation. Hell, he's not even the best defensive player in his division in his conference.

Brandon Spikes and Carlos Dunlap > Eric Berry.

Trevard Lindley > Berry.

There is another player, but I'll refrain from being a homer as I've already made my point.

He has a better shot at going #1 in the draft than winning the Heisman.

Would you care to elaborate on why these players are better than Eric Berry? Or who on South Carolina is better than Eric Berry. Mel Kiper has already tabbed him as the top pro prospect for the 2010 draft. He will easily be drafted in the top five next year. EB has started every SEC game since his freshman year, he only just finished his true sophomore year, and led the nation in interceptions. He is 14 yards away from breaking the the all time NCAA interception return yards record, which he will do against western kentucky. He won't win the Heisman, but he is absolutely a top three player in the NCAA this year. He was all SEC first team as a true freshman, and a unanimous all-american his sophomore season. Who on south carolina has those type of individual accolades?

Are you his agent in training? I don't give a shite what Mel Kiper says about him. Mel Kiper has been wrong before and he continues to be wrong about half the people he yaps about each year. Just because ESPN slaps a suit and a slickback haircut on him doesn't mean he is a damn expert.

Top 3 player? Tell that to Bradford, Tebow, and McCoy.

So your claim to fame for him is that he was All-SEC at strong safety.... what other stron safeties worth a shite have come out of the SEC the last two years? Hell only 3 safeties total from the SEC have been drafted the last 3 years.

Carlos Dunlap is better simply because he is a physical freak. 6'6 290 pounds and has every bit of the athleticism of Mario Williams and Julius Peppers. I mean the damn kid was returning punts and kickoffs for touchdowns his senior year of high school!! Not to mention the fact that he led the SEC in sacks last year and was trailed by...

Eric Norwood who was second with half a sack less (while playing one less game in the linebacker spot). Dude returned two fumbles for a touchdown in a game. Has Berry done that? Nope. Is Berry a 3 year starter? Nope. Hell the only reason why he doesn't make All-America lists is because of our lack of national popularity and because he shares a conference with Brandon Spikes and Rolando McClain - players who play at universities with far more popularity and nuthuggers in the media than we have.

Trevard Lindley is the best cornerback in the nation hands down. Eric Berry isn't even the best at his position in the nation - Taylor Mays ring a bell?

Mel Kiper Jr.'s evaluation skills>>>>TheeGamecock's evaluation skills

While I would agree that those 3 are probably better, it's not as clear cut as you make it out to be.

What do past safeties have to do with this? Berry got more votes than any player, regardless of position, on the All SEC team. And to hint at the fact that Berry won't be successful in the NFL is laughable. Anyone, who knows a shite about scouting has said Berry is a Top 5 talent in the draft.

No one would argue that Dunlap is a good player, but to include him as a player better than Berry is laughable. Why? Because he has more sacks. Got news for you, Strong Safety isn't as much of a sack position as DE.

No, Berry hasn't done that. Has Norwood come within 15 yards of breaking the NCAA INT Return Yard Record? Has Norwood been voted unanimous AA? Has Norwood gotten 14 INTs in 2 seasons. Is he the all- time leader in SEC history in INT return yards? As far, as him not being a 3 year starter, uhh, he's been in Knoxville 2 years.

What does Lindley have to do with this? Mays is is good, but Berry does many things better than Mays and most would agree Berry is the better college player.

Face it, no player in USC (jr.) history has even been in Berry's league.
