Other than NIL, the expansion of the conferences might be what is taking the fun out of FB

Maybe this is more MSB, but still relevant. (ETA - Feel free to move mods if this is better there)
For example, Alabama should play the long-time rivals like Ole Miss and Mississippi State every year; they're neighboring states and an easy drive. LSU Auburn is a classic that I looked forward to every single season. With the SEC taking in Oklahoma and Texas (who don't belong here), it's changed the rivalries that I looked forward to the most.

Oregon and Washington being in the Big 10 and Stanford in the ATLANTIC coast conference makes no logical sense. Things were fine the way before, but corporate greed and other schools wanting the football money changed the landscape of college football. NIL becoming "pay for play" also ruined a lot of the fun for me too, but I don't think losing the logical old-school annual rivalry games can be understated.

A 'classic' that was barely played before divisions.

While I agree with you... in theory, it's nothing more than a western division for the conference, and out of all of the moves, Pac members joining the B1G has some sense of tradition.

Yes and no. Obviously, the name should be changed, but Stanford joining with Notre Dame has more than enough history, and truthfully, one of the very first mega-conference proposals (in the 50s/early 60s) was for Cal, Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington, Pitt, Penn State, and the service academies, etc., to create a nationwide conference to mirror the Ivy League. To a limited degree, the current ACC fulfills that vision.

No. You are too young to remember the media protecting northern teams. Pre-UF dismantling OSU in the title game, the narrative was southern athletes were too slow and big. Forcing teams to play each other showed who is actually good at football.
