Having drove between Memphis and Birmingham via I 22 a few hours ago, I sure saw some ugly arse clouds on that route and wondered if one had sprung on the area

There's video of a funnel cloud near Tuscaloosa. You were probably lucky.

This is the 4th time since 2008 that Tupelo has been hit by a tornado.

I always loved me some Blue Canoe....but the couple of times I've been back home to visit....it just didn't feel the same. Still great food. But the atmosphere changed.

I feel like it happened because it became the cool place to go and you ended up with a crowded area full of drunken idiots. It use to be just a good crowd of very interesting people.

My first trip there was about 7 years ago. I thought it was fantastic. My most recent trip was just before the new year in December and all the Covid restrictions, so I guess I didn’t notice any changes because of that? Service was a little worse, but I didn’t dwell on it because of everything going on.

It’s a large town in a bad area for tornadoes.

I’m honestly surprised cities like Oxford, Starkville, Columbus, Meridian don’t get hit more often

Tupelo has grown like a weed, and its grown out rather than up. The bigger you are the better chance you are eventually going to get hit. Hopefully there were no fatalities or serious injuries.

I still have fond memories of living in Tupelo way back before history was invented. I used to live behind the little park celebrating the Civil War battle there.

Go down that road that T's right across from that about a mile/mile and a half and I grew up in that neighborhood. A bit down the road from Jackson St.

Just checked in with my mother in Fulton, she is doing ok but unfortunately Tupelo just to the west was hit in the middle of the night

Rough severe weather day ahead for Miss, Alabama and Tennessee... what's new in tornado alley?

For northeast Mississippi Tupelo is what we had. That was a large town for us. Look at it on a map- you won't find a town anywhere near its size within an 80 mile radius of it.

Calhoun City is a tiny town that got hit hard as well. Several neighborhoods just wiped.

Most of Oxford is a hilly area so it's hard for tornadoes to keep their steam up when they land. I was there in 2011 (the one that hit Smithville) when one hit though.

The same dead Indians that prevent us from winning anything also protect the town from natural disaster

ehhhhhh.....

I do think it's becoming a larger town, but obviously not a large city.

The northerly expansion out towards Barnes Crossing and Toyota in Blue Springs have made the area vastly different than it was decades ago, when Memphis was really the closest place with amenities.
