You and I must be about the same age. I was a high school senior when UGA won their last Natty.
In other words we are getting to be some old frickers

10th grade in New Orleans. I remember all the hype leading up to the game, and then watched and thought, "These teams are terrible."
If I remember correctly, ALL of UGA's yards came from Walker. If ND had just sold out to stop him in the first half like they did in the second, UGA would've been toast.
What a boring-arse game.

lol, you don't think every single team we played that year after like the 3rd game sold out to stop him? That was literally every defense's game plan, it just shows how superhuman he was that even with 10 people keyed in on him every play he still won games.
And you're right, we were all herschel as buck belue was somethign along the lines of 1 for 10 for 8 yards. Herschel dislocated his shoulder in the first half, but popped it back in place at halftime to finish the game wiht 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.

That's not true. We had 7 yards passing in that game. Kept them honest!

Seemed like ND pretty much shut him down in the second half.
If ND could've held onto the ball, they would've won that game easily.

Herschel had 150 yards rushing that game. UGA as a team had 120. He was the offense and they could not stop him even with a seperated shoulder.
I wasn't there that year, I got to go the next year to see Dan Marino beat us with 42 seconds on the clock.

Top-40 in the 80s definitely sucked, but there were the hair bands....

ND had 328 yards of offense on 78 plays to UGA's 127 yards on 65 plays. Seems like ND had a lot more chances and yards to win that game easily. They just effed up so much, they couldn't get out of their own way. As far as rushing goes, HW had 95 yards the first half; 55 the second for 150 on 36 carries and 2 TDs. Only 4.1 YPC.

Yeah, y'all definitely got worked by Pitt, but it was at least a much more entertaining game.

You and I both.
My grandfather took me to Athens that year, pretty sure it was an Ole Miss game.
There was a chain link fence (as I remember) that crossed the track. The players came out of the locker room and were about 4 abreast as they crossed the track.
I was hanging on that fence with my hands holding the chain links. It just so happened that Herschel was on my side; he passed within 5 feet of me.
I don't remember what I said, I think I said "you're the man."
His eyes never moved, he was looking straight ahead at the football field with laser focus.
He never knew I was there.
I'll never forget it.

In
I was 12, and the things I remember most about sports (coming off '79) was this:
the Saints look exciting with Archie Manning et al, maybe finally turn the corner in 80.
LSU football was cool (and I went to school with Hokie's little brother), but the basketball team was great.
There sure was a lot of rasslin' on WTBS... btw, I do kinda remember Gordon Solie talking about Hershel Walker that season, on the NWA shows. I remember people bitching about Marcus Allen in a comparison. So while pro wrestling was fake and it was on cable nationally, the crowd was definitely still Georgia

I was in 4th grade. Had the privilege to see Walker and Bo on the same field 2 years later. Splitting hairs to say which was better over their careers but that day definitely belonged to Walker.
