Joking aside I think that urge comes from the salt/sodium content in snot/boogers. Doesn't make it any less disgusting, but there is at least some science behind it.

I did not click that link and watch. I’m about to eat gumbo and crackers and dammit I refuse to lose my appetite. Plus I don’t want that vision in my head as I’m eating and puke all over the table.
