Whether or not what is claimed is true, I refuse to believe that the Oxford (or any college PD not Athens) would write a report that would be credible enough to be true. They look out for football programs in small towns

I don't think anybody is doubting that Denzel beat the kid's arse. But I'd guess that most or all of the eye witnesses would have been drinking, so how do you get an accurate account of the fight ( who threw the first punch and what happened from there) that would hold up in court? I don't think the University would have taken such a firm stance unless they felt really good that the lawsuit wouldn't get anywhere.
