The Red Elephant club is obviously pushing this investigation forward.

Beat Bama and feel the pain.

100k? Did you see his offer list?

The real question here is, how long will it take Southern Miss to recover from the sanctions that are coming?

I don't keep up with USM, you'll have to fill me in on this.

I think it's a play on the old Jerry Tarkanian quote after Kentucky basketball was caught cheating :

"The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they're going to give Cleveland State another year of probation."- referring to the NCAA's reluctance to punish the blueblood programs but will come down hard on smaller programs.

Mississippi State is no innocent either, did they ever get punished for their role in the recruitment of Cam Newton? I believe they offered the Newton family $160K but were outbid by Auburn

USM had a football cheating scandal of their own within the past few years IIRC. It just didn't get much publicly because it's USM.

ETA: Nevermind, I was thinking of basketball.

A lot of the college football talking heads are saying that there is probably some truth to the thought that NCAA was not happy with the way Freeze & the AD responded to the initial investigation; basically calling the NCAA out. And when the complaints came pouring in, the NCAA has all the leverage it needs now.

When you give the NCAA a reason to have an ax to grind, watch out. They will dig until they can find something they can make stick just to prove a point. When the whole D. Rose thing happened at Memphis (which wasn't even direct cheating by the University), the AD complained about how the Clearinghouse had cleared Rose at the time, and then the NCAA came back around later and started sniffing around again. When the AD questioned their decision in a press conference and talked about appealing their forfeited losses, the NCAA publicly threatened to bring more charges if they did. If you step out of line and call them out (which Freeze and the OM AD did), they will do whatever they can to get at you.

Exactly. Dale Brown. Tark. Calipari (at least pre-UK), Rick Nuheisel. Jim Harrick. Larry Brown. If Bruce Pearl isn't on this list, he's just an inch away.

Several of these guys are legitimately repeat offenders. It's just that, other than Cal, you pretty much never get off this list. No matter what anyone else is doing, they were or are coming after these guys, no matter where they go.

I thought the same thing about USC. I think they are going to take a big hit from the NCAA.

NCAA Enforcement representatives have visited Auburn and Mississippi State, and perhaps at least one more SEC Western Division school, this summer to speak with players who were recruited by Ole Miss. The players were granted immunity from potential NCAA sanctions in exchange for truthful accounts of their recruitment

They are definitely digging and this doesn't look good for Ole Miss.

If they're lucky, they'll get the FBI involved. Then they'll definitely get off the hook, no matter how much evidence is found.
