Nah, it's a shithole everywhere. I was happy to get the call to head home to Nashville from HQ.

name a truly impressive MUS alumnus other than Fred Smith?

Pitt Hyde and basically everyone else important in the city of Memphis.

Also David Sacks, COO of PayPal. He also founded Yammer which sold to Microsoft for over a billion.

Allen B Morgan, co-founder of Morgan Keegan.

Paul Tudor Jones, worth over 8 billion dollars

But no, no one too impressive

It's not Christian Brothers or Briarcrest. I'll take CBHS and Briarcrest and Harding Academy and St Benedict and others over MUS every time.

I mean if you want an inferior education then that’s your right

Eads is the best Memphis-area suburb. It's not even close.

When Briarcrest moved there in 2001 there was nothing there. It was in the middle of nowhere. Yes, more and more people with money moved further east in Shelby County. Eads wasn’t what it has become in 2000 when they broke ground on their new campus.

MUS, on the other hand, is in the middle of a 100 million dollar building project. Briarcrest doesn’t have that kind of money

And I hate to break it to you but the wealthiest zip code in Shelby County is still in Germantown and second (not Eads) isn’t particularly close

That maybe.

However, the first google search shows that the highest home value by zip code in Shelby County is Eads first and Germantown second.

Germantown has no where to grow. They have been out of development space for years. Areas near Briarcrest and Mary’s Creek have plenty of space.

How this went from about kids getting killed to a Eads-Germantown-Briarcrest-etc. slapfest is really odd.

NOLA just reported record low crime rate I believe
Thats because most of the criminal element left NOLA after Katrina. Houston has been fricked up ever since. Thanks a lot.

WHY is NOPD under a federal consent decree?

Or St George’s. Newer school but with a lot of old money. Lausanne doesn’t really belong with the others you named either

Yeah, it does. A lot of kids that might go to MUS or St. Mary's but prefer a slightly different environment or one focused more on arts might go there. As far as real estate goes, it sits right in the middle of one the wealthiest parts of the city.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

MUS, CBHS, Hutchison and St. Mary's are the definition of "Old Memphis Money".

All mentioned are very nice. The area surrounding Houston High School, Briarcrest, and St George's was at one point the wealthiest zip code in the state of Tennessee and is still towards the top of the list.

Dude, my family has lived in Shelby County since the 1850's. I know exactly what I'm talking about. That post had nothing to do with the neighborhoods. It's the schools. Houston, Briarcrest and ECS are not in the same academic league as St. Mary's and MUS.

After Katrina our mayor at the time (Mitch Landrieu) invited the DoJ to review the police force and investigate any excessive policies, behavior, etc.

As you can guess the DoJ found NOPD violated multiple federal behavorial policies and essentially neutered the police force. It killed morale among officers and led to mass attrition and oversight from federal monitors.

It’s been a disaster and even the staunchest police reform politicians will admit it. Thankfully NOPD is almost out of it.

case in point - so a bunch of limousine liberals who've never read a William Faulkner novel

materialistic fricks who have sat and watched Memphis become a third world abortion

wow, real impressive

Lived in Midtown Memphis two years and married a Memphian. Love that city. If the shooting did occur in the neighborhood then that's a strange spot for a shooting in Memphis.

We had another shooting that area this morning. It's changed.

I grew up in Midtown, in the same house my mother grew up in during the late 1930's and 40's. It's a wonderful area.

Memphis was a fantastic place to live from the 1930's to the 1960's. But in the 70's, the character of the city began to change. A lot more desperation, increasing poverty and deteriorating schools set the stage for where we are now. White flight after busing was a blow.

We had great public schools and kids could walk to schools. East, Central and Southside were top schools. Downtown was a great place in the 60's, and then it died. It made a comeback in the late 80's when the Belz family brought back the Peabody, and in the 90's when we built Autozone Park, but today, it's riddled with shootings and violence.

Well, there is Hampton Sides. Pretty damn good writer. And people like Staley Cates have put hundreds of millions into programs for young people in Memphis. Crosstown Concourse wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Staley. His brother Andy was the driving force behind Soulsville and The Daily Memphian.

But a lot of CBHS guys do good work, as well.

Central High in Memphis blows MUS away as far as impressive grads

narcissists would disagree

I'll bet White Station High would be the same story

Central was THE school in Memphis back in its day. Crump Stadium sits behind it and Arkansas and Ole Miss developed a fierce rivalry in that stadium. So bad, they stopped the series for a spell.

Paul Finebaum is a White Station grad.
