Ole Miss fans, a question

Forget the bickering and bitching a moment.
How is it Dae'Quon Wright is even in this position? He was 2nd team All SEC, seemed to be a dynamic and clutch player. People are acting like he'd be a significant addition to LSU's (or anyone else's) roster.
So how does he go undrafted, and unable to lock up a spot on an NFL roster? Even as someone's 3rd TE, that in a pinch could be their 5th WR?
Zero special teams ability, extremely poor blocking, terrible attitude, completely a result of Kiffin's system?
I get Harris, he had legal stuff and an injury. Wright seems like a mid-to-late round guy, one you take a flyer on and hope he can become a factor. Hell, the Saints took Delp from UGA in the 3rd, and Wright seems to have the far better career in college.

Weight being an issue and he had a tendency to disappear. I think he measured smaller than anticipated as well.
Paired with Green he would be extremely dangerous

I'd assume it has to with preseason and contract?
Hopefully, this should be the last of this shite. frick the NCAA for leaving out a single class for their 5 for 5 rule. The fricking bastards did this shite on purpose.

That isn’t the point.

So basically, a system guy- he was in a spot in Kiffin's offense that would produce numbers, but doesn't project well outside that?
As to the other responses, I wasn't asking why this is a controversy. I was asking why a productive, dynamic All SEC player wasn't even drafted.
LSU would obviously love to have Delane back at corner, but he was a 1st rounder. It was never even remotely in question. Pyburn was supposedly on the table until he got signed by the Chiefs, but the dude had 2 sacks all season. He wasn't an impact player for us. I think the Chiefs got suckered, fwiw.

There's a massive difference between good college player athletic and NFL player athletic.
He's also more of an oversized slot WR than traditional TE, which has limited applicability to the NFL.
Here's his NFL combine review:
quote:
Wright is a high-cut, tight-hipped tight end who can stretch the field vertically but lacks fluidity and bend for crisp route breaks from speed. He builds speed to threaten defenses, working the vertical limbs of the route tree. He can gain an advantage on linebackers when aligned outside. He’s big and strong enough to improve as a run blocker but needs better technique and commitment in that area. Wright projects as a Day 3 pick who should fight for a role as a TE3/4.
quote:
Weaknesses
Doesn’t fight hard enough to clear clingy coverage.
Clunky getting in and out of intermediate breaks.
Inconsistent use of frame to box out defenders.
Labors adjusting to low and back-hip throws.
Run-blocking technique at the point is below average.
Needs to become more consistently competitive as a blocker.
Unless you an athletic freak, there isn't much demand for a non-blocking TE in the NFL.
And don't get me wrong, he crushed it for us last year. Just seems like the type of player who is a far better college player (in the right system) than he'll ever likely be in the NFL.

I didn't watch all your games last year, just seeing the numbers.
I'm also a longtime Saints fan, was curious about this. People on the Saints board were excited about the Delp pick, it looks like Wright put up way better numbers.
I guess I assumed he was more of an actual TE with passable blocking skills, but you're saying he's just a big WR that yall lined up as a TE to get him covered by a linebacker. I kind of remember LSU having someone like that, without a lot of stats. Stephen Sullivan, I think.

Wright was better than his numbers I’m not sure how he didn’t stick on the NFL. Coercing him and Pyburn to sue is the overwhelming reason why this is an issue. If it were only Harris who got cut nearly immediately and never appeared in a preseason game this wouldn’t be a big deal and some ole Miss fans would support him getting another chance after being hurt. You guys have to understand though that you’re fricking with NFL practice squads/ fringe roster players so 32 billionaires and the NFLPA want you to get absolutely fricking nuked

Pavia and Chambliss are the extreme exception, and only because they were guaranteed millions in college and may not be viable NFL candidates. Pavia wasn't, I thought Chambliss was but I could see him taking an extra year under Kiffin's system to improve his stock. I think he's taking a big risk outside of that, it could eliminate his value if he struggles this year (he becomes a system guy).
quote:I don't think the NFLPA cares, to be honest. This frees up a practice squad spot for someone else. Wright might be fricked, but he pursued what he thought was a bigger payday.

Pyburn was grotesquely overrated due to a couple preseason games that nobody schemed on... we saw last year he's not a sack threat once you gameplan him at all. 2 sacks all year, and that includes some cupcakes on the schedule. He just made some plays in a generic preseason game, and the Chiefs took a flyer.

That’s what Kiffin is getting sued for.

Chambliss sued for a medical redshirt and had only played games in 3 seasons.

they do so very very much

Agreed but the NFL would have nuked college football if they had to bid against LSU for a fringe roster player they wanted

Ok, whatever. We can disagree on this.
This wasn't the thread to argue that, anyway. I was asking why Wright wasn't drafted.
Good luck this weekend.

Hot take, Harris never wanted to play for Kane Liffin and this was the checkmate move all along by Ole Miss brass.

What's frustrating is that mini camp participants are allowed by the SEC(they also are part of the suits btw) and that is fine. But players like your former DL who got injured before any participation and then waived isn't. When he did less NFL work than the Texas kid. It's the same thing. I don't get it. Why not get THAT mad about every situation?
