I thought you were the last to post in it. Right on, then. They're probably just killing duplicate threads.

Oh I'm good people can say what they want just having one guy that has to keep talking about me personally is weird. I leave the safe space to State fans and there ED.

At what point does it all become not worth it? Is there a line in the sand, for most of you, where the program's reputation has been so tarnished that you just want to clean shop and be done with it all?

Boosters have always overlooked an HC's peccadillos — as long as the HC is winning — but lose badly to your in-state rival and all you hear is, "He was cheating. It's time for a change."

Every HC who has a 5* recruit on his team knows that athlete didn't sign with him because of the beautiful campus. Everyone cheats. Freeze and/or Ole Miss got caught, so we won't lose any sleep over it.

OTOH if Freeze is ever seen drunk in a strip club, next man up.

I wasn't old enough to really have a strong opinion at the time, but I think there was probably a similar consensus over Sherrill among state fans. We loved him, but at the same time, to everyone else I'm sure he was looked at as dirty.

During Emory Bellard's last season, State fans were writing to their local newspapers accusing Bellard of being too honest to be a winning coach. When MSU hired Sherrill, every candidate who made the short list had previously been dismissed as an HC for recruiting violations. State even considered Collins of SMU fame.

Honesty is wonderful policy, as long your team isn't the conference doormat.

I knew when Sherrill came it was not if but when we would get in trouble. Good coach but a sleaze. Collins was offered but the President shot that down. My letter regarding Bellard was not about his being too honest but his refusal to go to something other than the triple option when you can't recruit big uglies and John Bond type quarterbacks.

I wasn't referring to your letter specifically, not that I'd remember it from the fall of 1985, but I'd bet you were in the minority with your knowledge of X's and O's. The op ed pieces I recall were vitriolic comments directed at Bellard's unwillingness to bend the rules.

Ole Miss fans had similar complaints about Sloan only two years earlier.

Well true. Nice guys don't win in college football. Felker, Bellard, Sloan, Curry; and the list goes on.

Nothing will happen to us. The NCAA already is aware of these measly messages. We are good.
