Here’s the full story. He will become a faculty member in the school of engineering. Heard this the other day, seemed kinda crazy but it’s true

Yes. Hooray for F. King Alexander, particularly his current goal of having LSU use a "holistic" approach for admissions, which is better known as simply lowering standards. fricking F. King, our man.

My family and I got stuck next to this guy walking into an uptown New Orleans restaurant about 10 years ago

This guy is a douche to the nth degree. Literally, Would not stop name dropping famous people he 'knew' and all the prestigious grand-standing high schools and colleges his children family members attended.

What were the issues?
personalities mostly. He never connected well with the ones he should have. He is very introverted and cerebral, not a handshake and motivational type. Faculty and admin were both split on him. It was very likely, if not all but assured, he was not to be renewed in 2020.

The attendance decline in a state of continued uncertain budgets year to year just gave more ammo to those that were not on board with him.

As a vet though, I can tell you that he was very committed to improving support for them. He was fully committed to rejuvenating the SVA when others were not. He had set a course for more support to the ROTC programs as well. In fact, yesterday was the annual chancellor's review ceremony for all 3 service ROTC programs at UM. Dr. Vitter did not want to cancel it, so that he could preside over it one more time and thank the cadets and Vets in attendance. His son served as well, which is why I think he is partial to military support.

Good guy. Just a bad fit. No one could affect the enrollment decline. It is a bubble that burst on the back end of a spike in athletic dept popularity. Out of state tuition drops and budget cuts are the only way to get enrollment back up, and Vitter would not have been effective selling either imo.

Yeah, BS from Notre Dame, MBA from Duke, PhD from Stanford, and a highly respected and cited computer scientist.

Can't imagine why there wasn't a 'culture fit' there.

Yeah being a cocksucker with a bunch of titles really ingratiated him with the community

This is a very good thing

Vitter isn’t a bad guy, but he was a horrible leader for the phase he oversaw. He seemingly lacked any authority or gravitas while in charge, and he was substantially weaker than the men preceding him at the helm. There’s a reason one of his nicknames was Chancellor Gumballs
