truth. But you're not supposed to have glass bottles in the Grove. Plastic gallon of (insert liquor) is good to go. but you don't want to chance coming across some dipshit power-hungry UPD officer who doesn't know the finer points.

fwiw......my group's menu goes as follows for this Saturday.
Andouille sammiches for breakfast
Boiled shrimp(Not bought from grocery store)
Boudin
2-day simmered gumbo
Red beans and rice
mini crawfish-cakes
and god knows what other sides. All will be cooked there but the Gumbo.
no way you are from mississippi with that menu. if you were, you would be cooking chicken and dumplings with a side of mountain dew.

SO you can't have open flames
Only in the Grove/Circle itself. The ashes and smoke are bad for the grass. If you're set up on the sidewalk or pavement along University Avenue then grills are welcome. Also, if you tailgate elsewhere on campus (near the stadium, for example), grills are welcome.

Keep it in a cup. I know, it's stupid, but it's the rule. You can be piss drunk so long as whatever you're drinking isn't out of the container it came in. No cans, no bottles, etc.

I've gotten so used to drinking beer out of a cup that I actually prefer it that way now.

nope. Born and raised North Mississippi. And most of everything we're cooking this saturday will be actually from the coast.

For starters, the Mississippi gulf coast has a LONG creole/cajun tradition, so don't act like Louisiana has some kind of a monopoly on andouille sausage and shrimp. Secondly, chicken and dumplings ain't shite compared to fried catfish and hushpuppies.

frick.....i'm the same way. It seems like it just tastes different in a solo cup.
I get that flavor of arrogance mixed with late Saturday disappointment.

no tears from me. I usually completely forget we had a game come 11-midnight. Hell, likely to even forget what day it is and set my alarm for class in the morning.
I have actually woken up at 7AM one Sunday after drinking till 4am. Went all the way to campus, parked, and wondered wtf the doors on my building were locked.

What's the rule on generators?
Posted on 11/14/11 at 7:22 pm to SportzIQ3235
here you go:
quote:
•The Grove opens at 9 p.m. on Friday, and closes at midnight following the game.
•Only university-sponsored events are held in "reserved" places. Space is claimed on a first-come basis. Occupy only the space you need - be considerate of others.
•No trailers are allowed to park on Grove Loop or the Circle. There is a 15-minute time limit in unloading zones.
•Know and obey regulations concerning alcohol use. Drinking is illegal for anyone under the age of 21. County law prohibits possession of beer and light wine on most of the campus. Distribution of alcohol without a permit is illegal, and leaving alcohol in plain view or unattended is considered distribution. Thus, unattended tents and coolers are subject to inspection, and alcohol will be confiscated.
University policy prohibits abusive drinking, drinking games, and mass or rapid consumption devices (kegs, funnels, shots, etc.). Public intoxication will not be tolerated, and violators are subject to arrest.
•Do not drive stakes into the ground to avoid buried electric and water lines.
•Portable generators with a decibel rating of 60DB or less are permitted for tailgating use.
•Power to all electrical outlets in The Grove will be turned off on gamedays. Only electrical outlets on the exterior of buildings may be used by tailgaters. Extension cords may not be run across streets or sidewalks or run through open windows or doors of campus buildings.
•Open flames are strictly prohibited. This includes the use of portable fireplaces and tiki torches. Propane bottles and propane tanks are not allowed.

parking
If you get there early enough, you can get a good parking spot on Sorority Row....close to Jackson Ave. It's free and just a couple hundred yards from The Grove.

LSU fans will outnumber Ole Miss fans in Oxford this weekend

take it from someone who actually tailgates here instead of someone who doesn't and just looked up rules.
Campus police will not frick with you and your alcohol as long as....
A. you aren't acting like a belligerent fricktard and puking everywhere.
B. You're drinking your alcohol out of a cup
C. You don't have beer cans/liquor bottles laying around
D. you don't leave your coolers unattended or unlocked.
Grover tip of the day. Figure out a way to lock your cooler. An unlocked cooler unattended can be searched and your beer will be poured out.(This is to prevent underage kids from roaming the Grove during the game and drinking.)
as far as generators go, Just make sure they're quite. I think there is something like a 68db noise limit on them.

If you had the read the rules I just posted, you would know what the rule is.

actually, I am married to an Ole Miss guy and go to more than one game a year with him. Not only that, but I graduated high school in MS and went to USM, during which I also made many a trip to Oxford to visit friends. I am well aware of what a bunch of overbearing jerks your campus police are...especially towards LSU fans. I am merely posting the rules for those who are in the dark on exactly what the rules are. I understand that we have to drink out of sippy cups and I understand your cooler has to have a lock on it, BUT you know as well as I do that if a campus police wants to mess with somebody, those two things are NOT going to stop them.

Nope. I've told them a few times to kindly go frick themselves and that I was clearly within the rules.
This goes back to guideline A that I posted. As long as you're acting like a civil human-being, you'll be fine. Start yelling at folks and starting shite, and yeah....security will be all in your business.
.....just like anywhere else in America.

Exactly. I've not once had any trouble with campus police. And my tent is usually set up right on the edge of the grove next to University Ave...where there is tons of traffic and cops patrolling. Just don't act like a fool and you'll be ignored.
