He was to young to be a head coach of a top tier team. Especially at USC..hot woman and a ton of celebrity fans and very rich so he enjoyed life.

Two reasons for the long term desire:
1) game day atmosphere - much better at other schools than OM. Much harder to win a night game Jordan Hare or Swamp or Kyle Field East
2) high school recruiting - can’t even crack the top 20 most years at OM. Much easier at other schools. Portal will never be preferred to home grown high school kids you’ve had for years
But you’re right, it was close enough he should’ve stayed. Plus it won’t be easy for him to win year 1. A few slip ups and he could be on the hot seat year 3-4. Let’s be real he’s never won before as a HC. If he doesn’t win and gets fired…..his legacy will be “that coach that walked out on a playoff team”
Game day atmosphere reason is legit. The pictures circulating this year of OM's crowd while winning a shite ton more than they ever have are embarrassing.
On high school recruiting, is Lane gonna actually do that? He could recruit HS a lot better than he currently is at OM but doesn't. I get the portal will be easier at UF/LSU as well, but he doesn't seem to be missing much currently.
