That is a pretty elite group. Can another conference come close to having 4 guys this good?

It is really more like:

Saban
--
--
Smart
--
Mullen
Fisher

But to answer your question, probably not. Smart will have to show he can win a natty. Same with Mullen now he is at a school where it is possible. Fisher will have to show he can win anywhere by doing it with the Ags.

Smart has done more than Mullen in only three years as a HC.

True, but Mullen did it at MSU and he turned around UF in just one season.

I can see arguments for both. I would put Smart head of Mullen.

1. Saban
2. Fisher
3. Smart
4. Mullen

After this point, it gets pretty muddled. I guess Gus is next.

Luke, Chad, Moorhead, Odom, Pruitt, Mason is the bottom 6. I'm not sure on order, yet.

Any list that has Mullen over Jimbo needs to be re-evaluated.

Oh shite, when did we get a generational talent transfer in from a JUCO to play one year en route to being drafted first overall?

Did what exactly? Took 6 seasons to win 10 games and lose to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl as his pinnacle of coaching achievement?

Made them respectable. Mullen had a 10 win and 3 9 win seasons at MSU. You have to go back to 1974 (to 2008) to find that many "successful" seasons.

Sure he couldn't put it all together or even win that many big games, but he took care of business vs the teams they didn't always in the past. Basically we are grading on a curve here because MSU has never been great. They're surround by Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M (since 12), Arkansas (they were good pre A&M/MU expansion)
