Exactly what scares me about this interim. He doesn't leave his alma mater for one season. If he does well this year, he gets a big contract.

How will he not do well with the players and staff we already have? So, his contract is almost certain.

That's what I'm thinking. What happens if he's 9-1 or 9-2 late in the year and he's trying to recruit some kid to come to Arkansas but can't tell the kid what his status will be next year? How is he going to sell an 18 year old to commit to a program that has an "interim" head coach?

If he has that record, wouldn't it just make sense to promote him full-time? And then all these Arkansas fans who are admitting that he's not a great coach but it's ok because this is only on an "interim" basis will have to justify why their school just promoted someone who has proven to be a mediocre coach. Someone who was acceptable only because he was an "interim" solution and who did well with someone else's players and staff suddenly becomes a good, legitimate option?

Yeah, I don't see why the players would dislike this hire.

They need to take Knile off his pain meds and get him back on the field. The kid is obviously delusional.

yeah, it's a very strange hire no matter how you slice it.

If JLS goes 10-2 or better, I don't see how he doesn't get the interim tag removed.

...wait, so Gruden wasn't at Powerhouse Grill in Fayetteville last night at 9PM in the "secret private dining room?"

Lol, where are all the Arky "insiders" that said their "buddy with connections" swore Gruden was going to Arkansas?

Exactly. It's not about who I'm happy with, it's about what works for this season. Players liking the guy means a hell of a lot more than if I like the guy. No one gives a frick about what fans think when it comes to personnel decisions, and rightfully so.
