because most teams these days have a Cam Newton or Darren McFadden lying around just waiting to be put under center and told "make some shite happen"

you really think that's how the O works?

No, obviously there's a bit more to it. I'm not a ranter. I know he tried to keep things semi-balanced when he was at Arky with DMac, Jones and Hills.... but after they left, he left for Tulsa to beat up on inferior defenses.

Give Gus a good, not great team with a standard drop back QB and toss in decent RB/WR and obviously he flirts with the .500 mark on the season.

yeah because his scheme relies around a mobile QB with a good arm. Last year he had the mobile part for Frazier wasn't ready to play.

shite Malzahn went 8-5 with Chris Todd as his QB who has average mobility.

So, all one has to do is feed Gus a mobile QB in order to win championships? How can you overlook that DMac and Cam's years were the only times his offensive schemes actually worked well (I'm not counting his time at Tulsa)? How can you be a dependable year in and year out coach that produces if you have to excuse yourself for 2-3 average years after your golden boy leaves until you find another way to win?

Look, he obviously can piece together an offense that can win. But if I'm going to pay a guy over 2 mil a year to coach, I better get consistency and I just don't see how that can be accomplished with him as head coach. He hasn't shown that he can be successful AFTER the golden boy leaves. 8-4 is not successful in my book. I don't know what you consider successful for your team, but that doesn't cut it for mine.

I consider Bama's system to be one of the best that has come around for some time. Yeah, they had Richardson and Ingram, but they have been more of a defensive powerhouse than a loose cannon offense the past couple of years. They refuel the system every year pretty well. That's the way to do it. You have a set frame for each position that you're looking for, you go out and get it, train it and watch it kick arse on Saturdays because there's 10 other guys on the field that have been groomed the same way. And when that kid graduates, the guy behind him will fill in alright because he's gotten the same training.

well if you're not going to count Tulsa that leaves you with:

1 year at Arky- which you mentioned he had a good year.

3 years at Auburn:

year 1- Chris Todd- went 8-5. Very average team. Many would argue were depleted thanks to terrible recruiting by Tubbs. Still did very well offensively.

year 2- Cam- we all know what happened.

year 3- Frazier/Trotter/ white Cam- too many QB's and none were that great. Trotter wasn't mobile enough, White Cam couldn't throw, and Frazier was too young. A brand new, young O.line didn't help and neither did an injury to stud WR Emory Blake.

agreed. I'm a huge Jim Mcelwain fan.

that works as long as you've had time to build depth. Auburn hasn't. Look at their depth chart. The whole thing is freshman and sophmores. They haven't had depth for years. In fact, they've never had it under Chiz.

Add South Florida's Skip Holtz to the already growing list of candidates who say they have no interest in the open Arkansas head coaching position.

"I have not talked to anybody from Arkansas," Holtz told the Tampa Tribune. "We've been through this drill. It's flattering your name is floating around, but right now we have a job to do here."

Even they have a nice and easier to read board than Mizzou.

I gotta think that Tubbs is a major candidate. Good coach, can recruit when motivated, and a native Arkansan. Besides he knows how to beat Bama.

Malzahn will be the popular choice, but given that he JUST accepted the ARK state job, I dont see how he could take the Arky job without looking like a sleaze but then Petrino just defined a whole new level, at least on par with Mike Price.

I never knew small schools actually had fans that followed them. Their emoticons are pretty good there.

Had one that was stirring the pot and one sitting in a cloud with a small 9 in it.
