And how many National Titles in that case that proves your baseball program is so much better? Perhaps give Lebby some of that baseball money to help win a game? Since you guys are so rich.

Lebby is on his own to prove he can swim. That’s about it. We share a NC, but even the most foolish OM fan wouldn’t dare to compare. Baseball finna eat, as it should. Maybe LSU pays more, but they are about to cough it up at a big level.

I happen to think Lebby is a really good coach. But the world has shifted. Money rules the day on giving a coach adequate talent. He has done about as well as possible with limited resources this off season. But getting O’Connor to State you guys guaranteed him a lot of money to work with to out buy all others in players. At the end of the day don’t blame Lebby if he sinks when he is limited by money and support.

I don’t like the money in college sports any more than you but right now State owes money on their baseball coach and Stadium. Just seems out of balance. Wish there was more money in baseball but there isn’t. I hope it pays off and you can win a title when the dust clears.

And one last thing (after I will leave you in peace)….for some reason you mention LSU…there is no comparison. That is a baseball program that has endless money and history. It just isn’t close with their titles and expectations. They expect to not just go to Omaha but win it. Every season.

State baseball doesn’t owe money to jack shite. Money poured in to get this deal done. Past players, the most active college fanbase in America, private donors.

Look, I’m happy?..You are concerned about or financial wellbeing, which you obviously aren’t, but this was financed by big money guns that wanted a major change. This was big money baseball specific boosters pushing this. They aren’t fricking around. That contract is pretty clear evidence this commitment is a strong step forward and an expansion of DNF will be a follow-up.

In short, this hire was not for competing with ole miss, as we already dominate that series overwhelmingly, past, present, foreseeable future…but to take a broader step forward and compete with big money and resources SEC (LSU, Texas, uSC, Florida, vandy) and new money threats (Tennessee).

Just thought I would add that Kendall Rogers reports that State has the largest NIL pot in the country.

We are so weird. Many of our big boosters are baseball only.

I think our strategy is when the big round of conference realignment happens, just as someone will say "We need Kentucky for basketball," there will be an opinion of "We need State for baseball."

Hope it works. I don't think it will.

I hope MSU will make money to help those boosters out.

College baseball doesn't move the needle on conference realligments. Football does.

I think you are looking at MLB guys like Clark, Papelbon , Perry and others are leading the charge in this. This is why we are going to get ran like a MLB organization. We don’t have that in football. If we do have NFL guys giving to the football program, it’s not at that level. That’s the biggest difference. Bart Hyche is even having golf events to give to the basketball program. I don’t think that we have any of that in football.

This whole coach hire has shown me one thing. Mississippi State may be at the bottom of the barrel in the SEC, but holy crap we are in better shape than some.

Virginia's athletic department is a total cluster, apparently. Lost football, basketball and baseball coaches in one year. Athletic director is a DEI hire that is pouring money into women's sports while facilities are falling apart.

Virginia is an academic school. They do not emphasize athletics the way any SEC school does outside of maybe Vanderbilt.

A lot of schools will experience the same thing Virginia is experiencing in the coming years unless big money boosters decide to step up.

This is a fantastic hire for State. They are putting their money where they rightly believe they can compete the most. Baseball will never be the cashcow football or basketball can be but it can still be profitable at a few schools and State is one of them.

Seems like LSU has given up on basketball for the time being and is more focused on baseball. Like MSU and OM, LSU baseball has a tremendous following. Huge

Using that same logic, how many football trophies does old miss have after throwing the kitchen sink at your football NIL?

Zero — not even a banner to hang alongside your co-western division champs one for making the playoffs. It's pathetic.

But here you are again, little bro'ing up another State thread.

The money from this contract came from private funds and former players. We have alumni that donate to baseball and baseball only. Deal with it.

Now blow.

Great coach and great hire by State. The salary seems justified for a baseball school.

You owe money on your stadium. That’s why your baseball program hasn’t turned a profit since it was built. I completely get it’s State’s thing as they were even before LSU with the crowds and stadium. From a financial perspective it is a losing battle. I know you have baseball specific NIL that doesn’t take from football, but while your football isn’t competent, you aren’t making money investing so much in baseball and will never upgrade your football program which is the money maker for all sports, enrollment, exposure, etc. Great hire, I won’t say it isn’t. Absolute best hire you could’ve made. It’s just a lot to invest in a sport that doesn’t bring a ton of exposure.

All while at the same time Ole Miss’ baseball budget/revenue has been higher than State’s along with your president making a point last night to beat Ole Miss. State has done better in the post season, head to head, baseball stadium, and so on but the head of your school still decided he must bring up Ole Miss. It really is a funny thing
