I don't think 'mediocrity' is the right term...more like 'reality'.
But the answer is 'NO'. We would prefer LSU fans never accept reality.
what exactly is reality? LSU has a great DC, arguably made a good hire at OC, recruits well, and the book is obviously still out on how well Orgeron will do 10 years removed from Ole Miss. I don't think optimism is being unrealistic.

Print the shirts, baby. Must feel good to have someone in the football building that has a win over Alabama, even if it was 13 years ago and Mike Shula was leading the charge.
Bama was ranked at the time, just saying =)

1. LSU hired their DL coach for the top job
2. LSU has a DC who will be there only 1 more season
3. LSU hired a OC who has done a decent job at a few stops, but has also been underwhelming
4. LSU had a mediocre season
5. Many of LA's top recruits are leaving the state

If your definition of "win" is beating Alabama every year, then I doubt anyone is going to pull that off. But "Ogre" beat everybody this year except you and Florida SOUNDLY.

I love when it is presented this way as if he's never been a HC, either FT or interim before

So his stint at Ole Miss qualified him to be the LSU head coach? There's a reason he was a DL coach. It's because he's already tried - and failed miserably - as a head coach.

All four losses were absolutely embarrassing, especially Auburn and Florida.

he was associate HC at USC from 1998-2004
he was associate HC at Tennessee in 2009
he was interim HC at USC in 2013
why do people keep offering him these types of roles if he's nothing more than a positional coach?
You know what urban Meyer did before his first coaching job? He was a WR coach at Notre Dame and had zero experience as a coordinator

Right, and he started at a mid-major and worked his way up to a major school.
O has been given the job at 2 SEC schools and failed miserably at one. Being an associate HC/interim is completely different from being the head coach.

right, yet Orgeron still has experience, and not every HC in the conference had that when they were hired, yet I don't remember the overeaction we're seeing with Orgeron.
Muschamp - nothing before his first HC job at Florida
Smart - nothing before he was hired at UGA (and he replaced a coach that had a comparable resume to Miles)
Mark Stoops - nothing before being hired at Kentucky
Dan Mullen - nothing before being hired at State
Barry Odom - nothing before being hired at Missouri
Derek Mason - nothing before being hired at Vandy.
The rest:
Kevin Sumlon, 35-17 record at a mid major
Hugh Freeze, 10-2 record in one season at a D1 school
Jim McElwain, 22-16 record at Coloado State
Butch Jones - 23-14 at Cincinnati and 27-13 at Central Michigan, both following Brian kelly
Nick Saban and Bret Beilema are the only other coaches in the SEC that had HC experience at a P5 school prior to being hired.
This whole "derp, he's a DL coach, derp" is very ignorant and short-sighted.
