The FBI is involved because churchs are non-profit organizations that do not pay taxes. So the FBI is getting involved simply because they think there is a money trail they are not interested in whether a reporter is telling the truth or not. They will want to know if someone is fricking the government out of their cut.

Is someone donated money to his fathers church and took a tax break and it was a pay off then Auburn is fricked. This is not good for Auburn.

Lying to a reporter is one thing but if you lie to the FBI you are an idiot.

Scoop you and NbamaAlum's legal advice is needed in all of this

How is this bad for us exactly?

How is John bond connected to Auburn at all whatsoever?

No clue. That is what the FBI is for.

Yes, and who was the key player being shopped?

Cam is the player. The FBI is not interested in the players...they are interested in the agents.

The NCAA is interested in the players.

Albert Means. I'm telling you I've seen PLENTY of what they do.

They have the power to get Kenny Rogers' phone records, and to backtrack every call he's made, and every cal THAT person made...

THIS is what I said last week about how useless a gesture Auburn turning over their phone records was. The devil is in Rogers' records...and WHO HE CALLED.

The Feds can also go into financial records...the NCAA can only look at what you show them.

That is not a bad theory, but that is not what the story says. It says they are investigating whether people are shopping players to colleges (i.e. Kenny Rogers). If the investigation was related to the church and taxes, it would be an IRS investigation, not FBI. Also, if they were looking for laundered money, my the heck would they care about speaking with John Bond? Why not Cecil and Kenny Rogers?

Yeah you are right, the FBI can just get whatever they want, whenever they want it, from whomever they want without demonstrating any probable cause or justifying it to a judge. Most police organizations in the country have such broad power. Glad someone has clarified the limits of the FBI's subpoena power.

If you don't think that a subpoena ad testificandum or a subpoena duces tecum can be issued in this matter....I've got some ocean front property in TN I'd like to show you. The church tax angle is all the blue suits need..

Exactly. Like I posted before, the FBI is not going to willingly get egg on its prestigious name for investigating a non-event.

The FBI makes arrests and workd hand in hand with the IRS in many cases

I have no doubt the FBI can and will do anything they want. The good news for everyone is that this wont take 5 years like the reggie Bush thing.

Not sure if I want my tax dolalrs being used like this but whatever.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT STARTED WITH THE MEANS CASE!! They went in under a "Civil Rights" abuse...

Isn't the Auburn NCAA compliance officer a former FBI agent? Could he have called in a favor?
