No way they would use Auburn alum for their mascot IMO.

This made me laugh...

I was told by a UM alum who is a doctor and in the the Loyalty Foundation that they will soon be dropping the name "Ole Miss" and "Rebels."

"Ole Miss" is actually what the slaves used to call the mistress of the plantation. I can provide many LINKS to prove this if you don't believe it. It's a very racist name.

He said they are going to go with being called the Mississippi Express and have images of trains on their helmets. That's unique and much better than the current name "Rebels" which relates to the confederacy and is racist.

I think it's known how the term Ole Miss started. But do you honestly think they would completely drop the name?

Jesus, I had no idea about the origin of the Ole Miss moniker

Make a clean break from that... rename school University of Phoenix in Oxford and make the mascot the man-bear-pig

Mississippi Express?!?

Shoot me now.

We are still the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is a nickname. Do whatever with it- I think it stays. I've heard ESPN and other media outlets call us Ole Miss or Mississippi.

I honestly can't tell if this is a well thought out joke on your part or an absolutely terrible idea on their part. Either way it's pretty damn funny.

There's no telling if this guys joking or not. He's said some incredibly dumb things before.

We aren't dropping Ole Miss nor are we dropping Rebels.

The nickname "Ole Miss" is derived from the saying "Good Ole Mississippi". Sure, slaves use to call blah blah blah.....but that isn't what Ole Miss is named after.

Sorry DanMullen....another swing and a miss.

So should KFC have to drop Colonel Sanders?

Seems like a waste of time.

Best I can remember this was an idea years ago and was done away with because the alum, student, and loyalty foundation hated it. much like rebel bruiser

I just can't imagine someone coming up with a train as a mascot and more than one person thinking "hey, this is a good idea."

We did use the "Rebel Express" as a marketing ploy back in the Romaro/Duece days. Just the same kind of thing like "The Red/Blue in you" last year or "Be a Rebel" this year.

Just different sayings to throw on some schedule posters.

Their new theme song could be a remix of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Tuesday's Gone" called "Mccluster's Gone"

Just kidding Ole Miss
