Didnt Urban Myer just sign a contract over the summer saying that he had to be the highest paid coach in the SEC?

They should go with a total incentive based contract. You get so much per win. Nothing for losses. 250K per win. 500K for a conference title. 500K for a bowl win, 1M for a national championship A coach could conceivably earn $5M a year. But the school doesn't have to pay for lackluster performances.

So what happens when 2 or more coaches in the SEC have that in their contract.

Note: I am not speculating that Saban is leaving.

However, if there is no buyout, the contract is incredibly one-sided and ultimately meaningless should he decide to leave. Alabama is essentially playing the part of the woman who gives it all up on the first night. Bama has no leverage under the contract and has positioned itself to take a huge fall if he decides to leave.

We're just hoping our pussy is so good he won't want another.

He does get nearly two million bonus at certain time intervals if he's still here. So in some ways, there is still incentive to be here. Over the life of the contract, it's worth 5 mil, just to finish it out.

... and so what if he never wins any hardware, at least you got a coach named Saban!

Not saying he's not a great coach, but here's the list of coaches that have won national championships with two different teams:

Oh yeah, I forgot - no coach has ever done it!

Because nobody leaves Bama once they're on top except to retire.

Saban is the man. The dude is brilliant.
The University of Alabama has hired the best USED COACH salesman in the history of college football.Congrats Saban family.

This is getting petty...what is enough to get by on anyway? does everyone have to have the biggest jumbotron? The highest paid coach....

I'm not sure what your point is, because, Alabama fans are very happy with Saban. The University is clearly satisfied as evidenced by this contract extension.

On second thought, I guess your point is that the University of Alabama is too easily pleased. You may be right about that. Alabama is being too easy on Nick Saban.

IMO Saban will never win another NC, especially at Alabama, he seems to be a regular season winner. A lot like Jim Tressel.

No, that only applied to one year, it was brought up a few weeks ago.
