Do you seriously track all of Alabama's plays? If so, are you getting paid to do that?

Nope that didn't help answer my question.

He was specifically talking about the "fastball" offenses that are hurry up no huddle (hence the no time to line up part).

Here is where Alabama ranks in plays per game the last 6 years

2013 - #116
2014 - #72
2015 - #49
2016 - #59
2017 - #90
2018 - #87

I see what you're saying SOG. But a lot of that could be due to Alabama being up by a large margin and slowing the game down once they are comfortable.

If we look at real-time between each offensive snap, last year Alabama had 31% of their snaps occur just 35 or fewer real-time seconds apart (exact seconds from the moment one snap occurs, to the moment the next occurs, NOT play clock/game clock).

For perspective, Auburn was right at 38% last year.

Plays Per Possession Minute

2018 - #84

So, the thing he's arguing about (running to the ball snapping it fast) is something we still very much do not do.

Which is why Kiffin trolls Alabama on twitter at every turn.

Every time Alabama runs the no-huddle, they should get penalized with a 15 yard personal foul for hypocrisy.

We run a lot of no huddle (or did, there will be less this year with Sark and different personnel packages), but we were rarely a tempo team. And we have never been a "beat them to the ball" tempo team, which is what that discussion was about.

As you know, no huddle =/= hurry up.

Saban didn't want to change. Kiffin had to drag him kicking and screaming into modern offensive football.

Saban came to resent him for that and pushed him out.

What? The whole reason he hired Kiffin was to make changes to become more explosive.

Kiffin got pushed out because he implemented a more explosive style of hybrid RPO offense? LOL what?

I understand. That's why I chose real-time between snaps.

That number places Alabama 4th among all SEC teams... Ole Miss, South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, then Missouri.

I was thinking about putting those numbers in the OP, but knew some of the slower ones here wouldn't understand it.

Oh sorry, he got pushed out for "banging a booster's daughter" I forgot that was the official company line.

Not a hypocrite at all. He adapted and changed his offense like a good coach is supposed to do. There is a reason Saban has won so many titles and it isn’t just because he can load up on talent like some choose to believe. It takes more than just talent to win championships.

Personally, I think Saban was specifically talking about the craze at that exact 2012-2014 period which was fastball offense that Freeze, Malzahn and Sumlin ran for periods of time (all adjusted from it, interestingly enough).

What Saban hated was sprinting to the line and basically trying to get plays off ASAP and not allow defenses to set or get positioned (I think he just didn't like it, he rarely made the injury argument and pretty quickly after this interview never made it again).

On the flip side, I think he recognised (like others in the NFL and College) how effective a simple no huddle could be in terms of matchups and limiting the defense personnel wise.

So, he brought Kiffin in with the singular mission to mesh his West Coast offense with a no huddle, matchup specific system. And that's what Kiffin did.

If they would go back to the old days of Mel Blount etal with regard to the way a DB can play a receiver, then that would be a start to evening the playing field.

frick defenseless receiver, and frick the five yard rules. Get open and watch your head!

Offense puts asses in the seats and highlights on ESPN. Everything is geared towards more offense handcuffing the defense. Soon, the QB will have a flag on their uniform to pull since you can't touch them without people losing their shite.

Once you get past the whole "he's a football coach" thing, it's not that big a deal. He's a tiny dude. Like 5'8" with the lifts in his loafers.

He got pushed out because once he took the FAU job his focus was awful, his Washington gameplan was a trainwreck and Saban thought he had to do something and had a seasoned play caller sitting in the analyst chair.

You can argue whether that was a wise move or not, but that's 100% why it happened.

What a cuck.

Why adjust to stop the no huddle when you can cry and hope rules change. Grow up!
