Miami had nine first round picks in 2001 and 2002 and 2002 and 2003.
2001
Damione Lewis
Dan Morgan
Santana Moss
Reggie Wayne
2002
Bryant McKinnie
Ed Reed
Phillip Buchanon
Mike Rumph
Jeremy Shockey
2003
Andre Johnson
Jerome McDougle
William Joseph
Willis McGahee
Edit: And they had ten first round picks in 2003 and 2004. Absolutely sick.

You must have missed reading 101 Mike Vrabel is on the staff at Ohio State, pardon my using an example of how a big program uses the NFL to their advantage without mentioning the obivious Alabama has players in the NFL too to ease your vaginal itch

have been saying this for a while now. He can get them drafted, but they go on to have average careers. Maybe they peak while they are in college, but GMs have to start seeing that other players (3rd and 4th rounders) catch up to Saban's within a year of being drafted. I love Calipari's comment about KY Players "they get players drafted in the first round and they go on to be very productive at the next level."
the nfl is a market place. if saban's players don't work out, then the gms will stop drafting them. very simple economics. there are very few stars in the nfl, most pro players are workmen who just do their job and are paid very well for it.
take a deep breath and stop worrying about how saban's players do in the nfl and concentrate on what they do in cfb. that's what saban does.

I think it will be many, many years before we see a worse NC winning coach than Larry Coker.

How they do in the NFL is a very different story. We have seen this especially with the secondary players, they suck. His linebackers have been good and only 1 or 2 dlineman & they have been ok. Alot of his players tend to be scheme specific and cannot adapt to others schemes.
Terrence Cody was a big part of a top 3 Rush D last season.
Rolando had 100 tackles.
Javier Arenas does just fine for a corner. Is he amazing? No, but he does a fair job, plus he's great at returning punts.
Kareem Jackson is a pretty fair CB as well.
Dareus is a stud and will only get better as his sack numbers go up.
Ingram played in a pass heavy offense where he wasn't even the number 1 back, he'll be alright eventually, but he won't be super duper awesome or anything.
Julio had a fantastic rookie season with Ratt Myan throwing at him.
James Carpenter got injured at one point, but was doing solid.
Mike Johnson is also solid.

So being pretty good and solid is worth a first round draft pick. I would agree if you were drafting based on Raiders Standards.

If you are a first round pick you are going to start your rookie year (except QBs), so throw that achievement out. If you are a skilled position player, you should be in line for rookie of the year. By the 2nd year in the league you should have established yourself as one of the top players on your team. Most teams will only have 6-8 first rounders on their rosters.

I think what is funny is that a Barn tard whose team has had two players of significance drafted in the early rounds in the last 3-4 years is on here dogging NS about his players and how they pan out in the first year of the NFL. It is obvious his success as an evaluator and a developer is working based on some recent comments that Mel "the hair" Kiper recently made.

I guess I'm basing my opinion on the standard of players drafted during the Tuberville era.

You're basing your opinion on being fearful the machine Saban has put in place will continue to steamroll. Getting positive press about how Bama is putting folks in the first round and positive press about how prepared Bama's coach has players for the NFL, is the last thing you as an Au fan wants. #scaredNtY'er

The sad thing for Auburn is Fairley going to a team with a star playing the same postion Suh, making it hard for him to get the Pro Bowl apperances they could use in recruiting

It's not fear it's amazement. I expect the bammers to believe the local press, regardless if there is any facts to back it up. It is the national press that is spewing the fact that Saban has his player ready for the next level. The facts do not back up that statement, at least to the point that his players have not excelled anymore than most other programs (and less than some).
I heard a Birmingham Radio host (bama grad) try to say that LSU's program has to give all of its credit for success to Saban. People forget that 80% of LSUs roster comes from a 50-100 mile radius of Baton Rouge. That the state has always produced great players, but most could not get in LSU. The fact that the state of LA made it a great emphasis to increase the academics of athletes prior to Saban's arrival so they would not have to go out of state. He reaped the benefits of this effort.
