Believe what you want, but nobody was spending 6 figures on Cam Newton. I don't doubt that Kenny Rogers may have asked for it, but it was never going farther than that. The common story is that he asked John Bond, for pete's sake

That was an unsubstantiated rumor with absolutely no evidence to back it up, allegedly cooked up by a butthurt Urban Meyer. Cam transferred bc Tebow was coming back for his senior season

Fluker - is he the one with the agent thing? If so, that probably happened. But that's not what I would call "cheating" in that it wasn't about getting him to come to Alabama. It could have been a violation though if it could be shown Alabama should have known about it, or worse knew about and covered it up(Langham etc).
I mean there are lots of violations and things that happen. But I personally reserve the "cheating" thing when it comes to recruiting players.
And before you ask, Alabama 100% deserved what it got for Albert Means and frick people like Logan Young and people who do that in general. Even if that means someone is paying for Tua. As far as I'm concerned Saban is hired to recruit and coach, not to commit fraud. So I don't have much tolerance for that and generally don't believe it's as rampant in football as people say.
Now I'm quite sure there tons of things that happen at all schools and "benefits" of being a player is numerous. Money handshakes, etc. It has to be policed because it could potentially be used in recruiting, but for the most part it's meh.
Paying players to come to your school is cheating. LSU basketball is cheating. Ole Miss was cheating, and Auburn got away with cheating.

There are more whacked out conspiracy theorist Bama Fans out there than any “ Moon landing didn’t happen” crazies on the internet. If it was just one or two you would just shake your head, but the majority of their fan says a lot about who they are.

They disliked Tebow, but it was never to the level of Cam. He can create more rage from Bama fan’s than any other opponent in their history. I really blame, Scott Moore, Redfish. Ian Fitzsimmons and John Bonds for getting their hopes up. Then they were led down the Rabbit Hole with Danny Sheridan, when that didn’t pan out they were close to the edge. Any mention of him today gets this type of reaction.

I always liked Tebow, so I'm not sure who "they" is. I could never hate on a guy for doing things the right way.
As for Cam, his attitude is the main thing that holds him back IMO. If he didn't act like a prima donna so much it would be a lot harder to dislike the guy. I think if you check around, that's no where near an opinion held by just Alabama fans.
PS: It's been 9 years, nobody is getting their hopes up about anything.

I don't know why he transferred but he was already gone before Tebow announced he was coming back.
